Finland 100: The Cranbrook Connection  CAM

In recognition of Finland's centennial of independence, Cranbrook Art Museum presents   Finland 100: The Cranbrook Connection, an exhibition examining the profound influence this country has had on Cranbrook and the development of the arts in America.

Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour highlighting some of the greatest female artists in our collection. These weekly tours will feature the artwork of Mary Chase Perry Stratton, Maija Grotell, Florence Knoll Bassett, Ray Eames, Loja and Pipsan Saarinen, and more.

Spring Break Art Days offer a fun, creative, open environment to create and explore art and design using Cranbrook's amazing collections! Open to grades K-5, each day focuses on a different theme and cross-disciplinary, hands-on projects. 

Museum Makery: Basket Making with Angela Eastman
Saturday, April 8 | 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Get hooked on basket making in this one-day workshop! Learn to make a basic round basket using natural reed, and take home a useful vessel with a creative personal touch. A variety of basketry reed and other natural materials will be provided.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour: The Stones of Cranbrook

Learn about Michigan's geology, discover the Institute's renowned Mineral Collection, and explore some great glacial erratic boulders on campus and examine the enigmatic stone Arrival Feature. The walking tour ends with a lesson on how Cranbrook's stone walls were built.

My Little Gem: Frank Lloyd Wright's Smith House Tours

Explore the remarkable architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, and his Usonian style, while also hearing the story of the home's builders, school teachers Sara Stein Smith and Melvyn Maxwell Smith. Tours are offered in partnership with the Towbes Foundation.

Tutankhamun: "Wonderful Things" From the Pharaoh's Tomb

Discover Egypt's celebrated boy king and the legendary contents of the richest archaeological find of all time - the treasures of King Tutankhamun's tomb - through meticulously created replicas of the pharaoh's possessions, along with artifacts from the period surrounding his reign.

Courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation admission to the Institute of Science is FREE after 5:00 pm the first Friday of every month through June 2017. Observatory and CafĂ© will be open. Tutankhamun exhibit and planetarium shows available at additional charge.    

Astronomy Day

Explore the universe with Cranbrook astronomers and members of the Warren Astronomical Society. Learn how to use a telescope, build a star chart, map the solar system, enjoy Stars of the Pharaohs in the planetarium, and view the sun safely in our Observatory.
