Documentary:
"Killing Us Softly 4: 
Effects of Advertising on Body Image"

 

 

Award-winning filmmaker Jean Kilbourne's reviews how the image of women in advertising has changed over the last 20 years. With wit and warmth, Kilbourne uses over 160 ads and commercials to critique advertising's image of women. Advertising effects on men are addressed just briefly. By fostering creative and productive dialogue, she invites viewers to look at familiar images in a new way, that moves and empowers them to take action.

 

   

Q & A Body Image Panel Discussion

Statistics show that negative body image issues puts girls/women and boys/men at risk for developing eating disorders as well as body dysmorphic disorder. Bring your questions to our panel discussion featuring speakers:

  • Body image experts Tami Brannon-Quan, Ph.D., MFT &
    Lisa Licavoli, RD, CNN, 
    co-authors of "Love Your Body"
  • Female panelist in eating disorder recovery, Irvina Kanarek, founder of RewriteBeautiful.org and author of "How to: Rewrite Beautiful"
  • Male panelist in eating disorder recovery Byran Bixler, featured on
    the Dr. Oz Show

Following the documentary and panel discussion, attendees can enjoy a festive spread of appetizers and desserts while crowd mingling. Resources also available promoting eating disorder and body image awareness and treatment.

 

Book signing and sales of "Love Your Body" by co-authors Tami Brannon-Quan and Lisa Licavoli as well as "How to: Rewrite Beautiful" by Irvina Kanrek will be featured in addition to the raffle drawings. A portion of the book sale proceeds benefit OC iaedp chapter.

The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) was established in 1985 by a group of progressive thinkers wanting to ensure the highest standards of education, training and professionalism in the field of eating disorders.  The OC Chapter of iaedp is working hard to continue this mission with the establishment of our chapter website Facebook Page, Twitter and Linked-In Group, as well as our quarterly educational events.
