Raleigh, we have liftoff!

Celebrate with us this Saturday!
Wine Authorities Raleigh is open in all it's spacious glory, and we are throwing the Grand Opening of the Century to celebrate! And it's not just us tapping the wine-kegs and kicking out the jams; we've hauled in a party-bus-load of our friends to help us share the love. Ponysaurus Brewing's Keil Jansen will be pouring some of his small-batch craft beers. Bruno Arricastres of Wine Without Borders will polish his finest cowboy boots to pour wine alongside Jen Vieceli of The Country Vintner and Jay Murrie of Piedmont Wine Imports. Phoebe Lawless of Scratch Baking is bringing the deviled ham and granola with buttermilk while Kelli Cotter of Toast got that vinaigrette up in the house. The Notorious DOCG herself will sample out cheese from our significantly bulked-up selection. The world-renowned food truck, Pie Pushers (parked in propitious proximity) will be peddling pizza pies.
Oh, and there'll be a magician from noon to two. His name is Captain Kid, and he is nothing short of ASTONISHING! He rolls with a parrot named Jax.

Perfect Post-Holiday

Budget Recovery:

Boxes of Wine!

Chase away the post-holiday budgeting blues with our unprecedentedly extensive selection of boxed wines!  Old favorites like Domaine Le Garrigon's famous Vin de Mditerrane,  Domaine Pinchinat's Venus Rouge, and Eric Texier's fabulous "Chat Fou" are unarguably all up in the house, but we're most excited about the new additions to our 3 liter menagerie.  Daniel Couston of Domaine Le Garrigon has finally acquiesced and sent us BiBs (short for "Bag in Box") of his Cotes du Rhone. And in a crazy bolt-from-the-blue Box event, Carussin has sent us their delicious Barbera d'Asti in a very nice-looking box. Look for the box with the donkey on it, or as we are calling it, the Boxdonkeydonk.  The newest arrival is Apatagua's "Gran Verano" Sauvigon Blanc from Curico, Chile - crisp, tropical, and delicious!

Tasty Tuesday!
Bodegas Tempore of Aragn
This Tuesday, January 14th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!
  5:00 - 7:00 pm
Aragon's Tempore
If the phrase "Kingdom of Aragn" evokes thoughts of an imposing landscape filled with ancient castles and fortified cities, then you're on the right track as that's exactly what it was, but there's also a treasure in the hills, and that powerfully purpley quarry is the equally ancient Garnacha grape.  Garnacha (or, as the french call it, Grenache) is a native to these arid northern Spanish climes, and it continues to reach its rich, ripe zenith in this awe-inspiring environment.  Join us on Tuesday for a tangy ros and two deliciously different reds from the excellent Tempore, a producer whose work has never before been available in North Carolina. Garnacha guaranteed!

And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

   Zealous Zinfandel...

Profound Primitivo!
This weekend, we arm ourselves against the cold with one of the world's most comfortingly warming, spicy, and indulgent grapes, Zinfandel...or is it Primitivo?  That depends on whether you're from California or Puglia, the two adoptive homes of the ancient Croation grape, Crljenac Kastelansk (try saying that three times fast).
Though its even older name, Tribidrag, has been all but forgotten in its native Dalmatia, the grape itself has never had so many admirers.  This week, we celebrate the varietal with a tasting of two examples from Italy's heel-shaped Puglian peninsula and two from the United State's wild western California!
This week's Saturday tasting will be featured in Durham only (as Wine Authorities Raleigh is having a grand opening party on Saturday).

The earliest records naming Primitivo in Puglia arise precisely from Gioia del Colle, where the 18th century priest Filippo Francesco Indellicati marveled at how this hardy varietal flourished on the plateaus of Le Murge, ripening early to combat hot days and plummeting temperatures at night.  Mariangela Plantamura's vines were planted by...
