September 21, 2012      Fill the Cathedral This Sunday for MusicFest Vancouver Reprise!
Dear friend of MusicFest Vancouver,

This Sunday is MusicFest Vancouver Reprise!

We are thrilled and humbled by the sheer talent and good will that will be on display over the three concerts comprising this special day of fundraising concerts.

Ariel Barnes, Miles Black, Daniel Bolshoy, the Borealis String Quartet, Jesse Cahill, Elektra Women's Choir, Celtic harpist Lori Pappajohn with members of her Winter Harp ensemble, Jennifer Scott,  Stephen Smith, Cory Weeds, and Rene Worst feel so passionately about MusicFest Vancouver that they are donating their time and talents to this grand day. Thank you to each and every one of our performers!

These artists will perform in the welcoming and beautiful Christ Church Cathedral, our "concert hub" and home since the festival began. All of us at Musicfest Vancouver would like to express our gratitude to the Cathedral, whose generous donation of the use of their facility - and the free parking - really made this day possible!

This Sunday At A Glance

Jazz at 3pm

with Cory Weeds, sax | Miles Black, piano | Rene Worst, bass | Jesse Cahill, drums | Jennifer Scott, vocals

Cool jazz kicks off MusicFest Vancouver Reprise on Sunday September 23 at 3pm. Sax player Cory Weeds has called on three of the city's most in-demand jazz colleagues to join him on stage at the Cathedral, all of whom have performed for us at Cory Weeds' Cellar Jazz Club. Vocalist Jennifer Scott is on the road in the US on the same weekend but is so passionate about MusicFest Vancouver that she has arranged an early flight to be back in time to sing a ballad or two!

World at 5pm

with Lori Pappajohn & members of her Winter Harp ensemble | Elektra Women's Choir | Stephen Smith, piano

Celtic harpist (and MusicFest alum) Lori Pappajohn and members of her Winter Harp ensemble open our World at 5pm show with a Celtic-infused set that reaches back to the medieval minstrels and bards of yore. Joining Lori for this evocative and beautiful set are Roger Helfrick (harp & voice), Jeff Pelletier (flute), Joaquin Ayala (medieval instruments), and Bruce Henczel (percussion).

More music of the Sceptered Isle and beyond will be performed by members of Elektra Women's Choir, led by Artistic Director Morna Edmundson and featuring pianist Stephen Smith. Elektra is known for its brilliant singing, ravishingly beautiful tone, and captivating stage presence. The choir's contribution includes works by The Wailin' Jennys (One Voice & The Parting Glass) , Eleanor Daley (The Lake Isle of Innisfree), György Orbán (Lauda Sion), Bramwell Tovey (Aubade), and Stephen Smith (If My Love Leaves Me).

Classical at 7pm

with Daniel Bolshoy, guitar | Ariel Barnes, cello | Borealis String Quartet

Our classical offering brings together Vancouver's renowned Borealis String Quartet, guitarist Daniel Bolshoy and cellist Ariel Barnes. Daniel and Ari's sold out performance at Pyatt Hall was a festival hit, and here's your chance to hear some of that music again. Ari and Daniel will also be heard in music of Bach - some of the most sublime solo music ever written.

Over the years, the Borealis String Quartet has been a frequent guest of MusicFest Vancouver. Its members (Patricia Shih, Yuel Yawney, Nikita Pogrebnoy and Bo Peng) will share with you some music of Franz Joseph Haydn (String Quartet in G Major, Op. 76 No.1) and will also be joined by Ari and Daniel.
