Palm Sunday

Holy Week is nigh.

Sunday morning begins an intense and powerful journey with Our Lord the last days of his life culminating in the greatest moment in the history of creation - the defeat of death by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Week is more than a liturgical drama, it is an invitation to participate in the reordering of life.  In doing so we see not only the person of Jesus but we see ourselves, sometimes with painful clarity.

Palm Sunday begins with the blessing of palms and solemn procession around the church.  The children will join in the procession at 9am.  The palms will be in the narthex.  Please pick up a palm as you enter.  They will be blessed at the beginning of the liturgy and sprinkled with holy water during the procession.  Be sure to keep your palms, hopefully we've ordered plenty!  The palm has long been a sign of victory and its use in the gospel account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem speaks to his impending victory over sin and death.  Early in the Church, the palm

became a symbol of the faithful's victory over the enemies of the soul.  Early tombs of martyrs were painted with palm branches as a symbol of this spiritual victory.  May we keep this in mind as we hold the palms, not just as a "Jesus Parade" but as a reminder and call to faithfulness and victory over the enemies of the soul.

Watch Before the Blessed Sacrament

You can sign up for an hour before the Blessed Sacrament at the Altar of Repose (side altar) from 8pm after the conclusion of Maundy Thursday until noon on Good Friday when the watch is ended.  We are called as was Peter, James, and John to stay up with Jesus and pray before his arrest and crucifixion.  Suggested prayers and devotions are provided for the hour.  You may do this alone or with others.  You can sign up here.  Email me with any questions.

Requiescat in Pace

The Burial Office for Magaret Gidley will be tomorrow (Saturday, April 12) at 2pm in the Church.

This Sunday we will celebrate Palm Sunday and mark the beginning of our Holy Week journey, singing "All glory, laud, and honor" and "Ah holy Jesus" at all three masses. Some 7:30am folks practiced these hymns the past 2 Wednsedays before the noon mass, and they will help lead the 7:30am hymn singing this Sunday. If you worship at 7:30am and would like to practice hymns & have some vocal training with me, please contact me or Bob Piper.

Before the 9am mass, our St Timothy's Brass Ensemble, lead by David Bergstone, will play some Holy Week hymns and traditional Moravian chorales outside the Church. At 9am and 11am, the procession will stay inside the Church this year, and children will process with the altar party singing "All glory, laud, and honor" and "Hosanna."  Wave your palm branches high!

To Thee, before Thy passion,
They sang their hymns of praise;
To Thee, now high exalted,
OUR melody we raise!

Prelude: All glory, laud, and honor, Healey Willan - Scott Carpenter
Anthems:
Hosanna to the Son of David, Healey Willan - The women of the choir
Thou Knowest, Lord, the Secrets of Our Hearts, Henry Purcell
Hymns:
All glory, laud, and honor
Ah holy Jesus
Go to dark Gethsemane
No Postlude this Sunday: Please depart in silence, marking the beginning of Holy Week

After the 11am mass this Sunday, John Shannon will be in the choir loft to give a "tour" of the Hook & Hastings organ, explain how it works, and answer any questions. All are welcome to come see the progress! The bellows will be lowered soon, and once they are in place, the pedal tracker action will no longer be visible. Follow the installation progress on the parish website link here.

See you Sunday!

Adult Formation

St. Timothy's is not having our regular Adult Formation offering after our 9:00 AM Mass because of the slightly lengthened liturgy on Palm Sunday. There will be coffee offered in Gribbin Commons after the 9:00 AM. I am looking forward to worshiping together throughout Holy Week! Let me know if you have any questions.

Our Adult Confirmation and Baptism Class will continue this week at St. Tim's with Fr. Steve. Like prior weeks, it will be from 4:00-5:00 PM. Please email me at
[email protected] if you need more information and a class schedule. Childcare will be provided.

Youth Formation

This Sunday morning, we do not have our normal youth formation offering. So if you are counting on eating donuts for breakfast, you may want to eat before church this week!

This Sunday afternoon we are combining a youth Mission Trip Service Project and Confirmation Class to work on our Community Garden.  So join us at St. Tim's to prepare our garden for the better weather ahead! We will meet at the church from 4:00-5:30PM, and we'll dig in the dirt and eat pizza together (it's on us). Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Our continuing hope is to build St. Timothy's into a safe and inviting place for students to discover what it means to be followers of Jesus. If you have any questions about what we do, or how to get involved, please ask!

Children and Outreach
The Reverend Katie Bryant [email protected]

Children's Formation

PreK Godly Play (ages 3-5) happens every Sunday during the 9am mass.  Children can gather in C-2 beginning at 8:45am to get ready for Godly Play, so adults have time to get upstairs before worship begins.  We will bring the children up to meet their families before Holy Communion.  If you want to be a part of this exciting ministry--talk to Katie about volunteering and join in the fun!

At the end of the 9am service, all children (preK-5th grade) can process out of the church following the Children's Cross.  We will make sure your children find their class!  For the littlest ones, we have a professionally staffed nursery available all morning beginning at 8:45am.  Parents can pick up their children  at 11am outside of C-4. Nursery for infants and toddlers is available through the 11am mass each Sunday.

The Annual Easter Egg hunt will be EasterSundayApril 20, between the 9am and11am mass.  If the weather is nice we will gather on the sidewalk in front of Gribbin.  Please donate candy and small treats to fill eggs for the hunt!  Bins for candy will be in Drake lobby and at the donation station shelves.

Outreach

Thank you to everyone who helped with Overflow Homeless Shelter!  This Tuesday, April 15, at 1pm we are meeting in Drake Hall to look back over what we did well--and what we can do better--to offer hospitality and God's love to our homeless guests.  If you have any feedback, comments, or constructive criticism to share concerning the overflow shelter--please email Katie Bryant at [email protected] or feel free to come to the meeting.
