Adoration. Formation. Transformation.
Almighty God, who hast given thy only Son to be unto us both a sacrifice for sin and also an example of godly life: Give us grace that we may always most thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and also daily endeavor ourselves to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life; through the same Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THIS SUNDAY AT ST TIMOTHY'S
TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
AUGUST 16, 2015
Liturgy & Homily
Fr. Steve Rice frsteve@sttimothys.ws

Once upon a time, a space shuttle launch was a major event. As a school boy, I remember class stopping and televisions rolled in the classroom so we could watch the latest shuttle launch. Over time, however, these launches - as spectacular and dangerous as they were - became routine. It was barely a headline, much less a major event. It is such a blessing when major events become routine, but I would hate for us as a parish to let major events pass by without recognizing their importance. It's hard to believe that we are welcoming our fifth class of Abraham Project Interns. Since 2010 we have called recent college graduates to Winston-Salem to live together in community, live simply, and to serve others in our community and parish. They live together on Knollwood, pray the Daily Office with us, and work in various agencies around the city. For ten months they grow together in the Lord. When they leave, they have grown and we have been blessed. The lesson from Proverbs speaks of the house that wisdom built. The Church Fathers said Wisdom is Jesus and the House is both the Virgin Mary and the Church. I pray that this class of TAP interns will build a community in this House, guided by the example of Our Lady and the witness of the Church. Let us welcome Paul, Parker, and Ainsley, not as routine, but as the remarkable blessing it is.

See you Sunday,
Fr. Steve

This Sunday the St Timothy's Brass Ensemble will play for the 9am mass.
Prelude: Bach Chorale
Communion: "O wondrous type" and "Hail to the Lord's Anointed"

Our final hymn on Sunday, "When  in our music God is glorified," is a hymn about why we sing and offer music to praise God.  The first stanza  speaks of offering our music humbly to the glory of God. Stanzas 2-3 mention the aesthetics and history of musical worship. A biblical model of singing is present in stanza 4, and stanza 5 paraphrases part of Psalm 150.

Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always Alleluia!

Hymns:
When morning guilds the skies, No. 427
Be thou my vision, No. 488
O praise ye the Lord!, No. 432
O Food to pilgrims given, No. 309
When in our music God is glorified, No. 420

Please remember that this Sunday (and each Sunday this summer)  everyone is invited  to come to mass a little early - 8:25am or 10:25am - to warm up your voice, wake up your brain, learn the hymns for the morning, and help lead the singing either from the choir loft or the pews.  All are welcome : young and old, singers and "I can't sing-ers."  Please contact me if you have any que stions or just show up.

Also, our   last "Christin & Robert's Conservatory" of the summer is  next Monday, August 17, from 5:30-6:30pm in the Choir Room. We would love for you to join us. Please email me at christin@sttimothys.ws to register.

See you soon,

This Sunday morning, get ready to greet our fifth class of Abraham Project Interns to Winston-Salem. Ainsely, Parker, and Paul will be at all three services - please welcome to St. Tim's. We are so thankful for their willingness to give a year of service to our community and at St. Tim's.

Also, in the bulletins this Sunday morning, there will be information about Confirmation preparation, and the new ECW schedule. We are started to get geared up for our new program year - please be sure to watch for everything we have going on

Adult Formation has transitioned to our summer break. We will resume Formation classes on September 13. Let me know if you are looking for ways to get involved at St. Tim's this summer; we still have a lot going on.  Everyone is welcome to join together outside Gribbin Hall for Lemonade at the Garden beginning around 10:15 AM. See you there!

Student Formation has  also transitioned to a less structured summer schedule. Throughout the summer we will keep in contact on Sunday mornings at Mass, and of course there will be plenty of fun stuff going on during the weeks to come! If you want to talk or hangout, just let
me know! We will be resuming normal programming with our Kick-Off Party on August 30th.

Our continuing hope is to build St. Timothy's into a safe and inviting place for students to discover what it means to be followers of Jesus. If you have any questions about what we do, or how to get involved, please ask!
Children & Outreach
The Rev. Katie Bryant, katie@sttimothys.ws

Outreach in August
The Anthony's Plot Block Party is today (Saturday, August 15) from 3-7 pm! The address is  2323 Sunnyside Avenue - right next door to Trinity Moravian Church. St Tim's will be joining with Anthony's Plot for games, crafts, live music, and school supplies for over 150 kids in the neighborhood! This is a fun opportunity to volunteer and get to know the families around Anthony's Plot. Come help the kids get excited and ready for the first day of school!

Overflow Shelter Meeting
Overflow Shelter planning has begun! Come this Sunday, August 16 at 10:15 am to Gribbin Commons to learn more or help with St Tim's Overflow Shelter. Please contact katie@sttimothys.ws if you'd like more info!

Children's Formation
Every single Sunday, PreK Godly Play happens during the 9am mass. Parents can drop off  PreK children (ages 3 & potty-trained to age 5) in room C-2 anytime after 8:45am for a time of singing, story, and wonder together. This summer we are also helping our rising kindergartners transition upstairs to sitting in mass with their parents.  Please be welcoming of these young disciples as they join in the rhythms and beauty of the mass. We will bring the children upstairs to join their families in mass during the passing of the peace.  There is a professionally staffed nursery for infants and toddlers from 8:45am to 12:15pm, during both 9am & 11am masses.
