THIS  SUNDAY AT FOOTHILLS
August 13, 2017

YOUTH SERVICE TRIP SUNDAY. Our worship service Sunday will be led by the youth/young adults who participated in our service trip to the Blue Theology Mission Station.  Please join us as we tell our story and express our gratitude in pictures, music, and poetry.

SPECIAL THANKS to our own Kristin Burns, guest pianist, Cindy Anderson, guest clarinetist, Laurel Anderson, guest flutist, Sam Burns, Anna Garverick and Sarah Teske, guest musicians, for their  gift of music in Sunday morning's worship service.

MANY THANKS to Laurel Anderson for composing the slide show telling the story of our service trip.  Your work brings the trip alive in ways that words and music alone could not do!

TODAY'S WORSHIP SERVICE is family oriented, with all ages invited to remain for the entire worship hour.  Nursery care is provided in the Learning Center as usual. If your younger children would be happier in the nursery at any time during the service, you are welcome to take them there.

                              UPCOMING EVENTS

JOIN US FOR AN EVENING AT THE BALLPARK.
Let's go see the San Jose Giants play the Stockton Ports on Sunday, August 26, at 5 p.m.  Tickets are $11 for adults if we can get a group of 15 under 65ers together and $8 for children ages 5-12 and seniors ages 65+.  SJ Giants games offer good food, a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere and pretty good baseball at a very affordable price. There is always great entertainment between innings as well.  Mark your calendar and sign up  in the courtyard.

CHANGE? You are invited to the final informal discussion with Rev. Janice Steele on August 27. The BBC (Bagels, Brew and Conversation) is an opportunity to have a frank conversation about the identity of FCC in the Fireside Room immediately after church.

A BIBLE STUDY SERIES, based on the book Living Faith While Holding Doubts, by Martin B. Copenhaver. Author and pastor Martin B. Copenhaver explores the healthy tension between faith and doubt, and demonstrates how a balance of both will actually allow you to develop a deeper relationship with God. The study includes questions for reflection and discussion. Rev. Steele facilitates. Bring your Bible. We will meet Sundays, starting Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. and also during Truth Seekers, starting Sept. 7. A sign-up sheet is available in the courtyard for ordering the book. Cost is $10.50 per copy. Make a check to Foothills, with a note, Living Faith book.

YOU ARE INVITED to our next UCC Justice Issues Study Group, Wednesday, September 6, at 1:30 pm., in the Fireside Room. The ucc.org website lists several justice issues which our General Synod have passed resolutions on and worked to implement improvements. Is there another local UCC church which has taken action on your issue? Could we work together? Questions?Contact Karen Lemes.
