Peace United Church of Christ
February 27 - March 1, 2015
We believe in wonder and gratitude.  We practice extravagant welcome and curiosity and
celebrate our many, many ways of being human.  We strive for compassionate living and peacemaking in service with others.  When you visit, we hope you'll find a delightfully diverse, deliberately Christian, and decidedly progressive church!  Join us this Lent as we journey into the wilderness to meet God in the strangely wild places of our lives...
This Sunday
MARCH 1, 2015 (LENT 2)
10:30 am in the Sanctuary

Join us this Sunday as we continue along the Lnten trail with a focus on our ministries with the incarcerated in Santa Cruz County.  Peace United has a lively network of such ministries (the Prophets of Hope); on March 1, these lay ministers will lead us in worship!  At the heart of our service will be stories told by a mother and daughter who've been part of our witness, and will share their perspective on the challenges they've faced.

Leading this week are the members of Peace United's Chancel Choir, with Beverly Brook and the Prophets of Hope!

Have You Visited Us?
If you have, your visit matters to us.  It's often strange to visit a church for the first time: to see new faces, hear old words spoken in new ways.  We appreciate your trust, and we eagerly await the chance to see you again.

When you return, there will likely be a name-tag with your name on it, a chance for us to greet you more personally.  Always, your questions and your curiosity thrill us.  Return with these, return with your whole selves...

And know that you are God's blessing.

Every day.

Who We Are...
We're an
congregation of the United Church of Christ--which means we take diversity seriously and we welcome all God's children as full and beloved members of our community.

We're part of
COPA
(which stands for Communities Organized for Relational Power in Action)--and in that way we work in solidarity with peoples of many traditions, bringing justice and decency to public life on the Central Coast.

We're decidedly
CHRISTIAN, and in the most inclusive, generous way possible.  We believe that--at its core--the gospel is a call to compassion.  And that's what we try to be about every day, every week.

Taize Fridays in Lent
During Lent, our Taize Team leads a weekly service of prayer and song every Friday evening at 8 pm.  This is a quiet, contemplative hour of peace, with repetitive chanting in the tradition of the Taize community in France.  All are welcome!
Pray for One Another
We invite one another to hold our friends and many others in prayer, inviting God's light to shine upon those in need...

Making Connections
This Week's Reading

When despair for the world

grows in me
and I wake in the night

at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be
I go and lie down

where the wood drake
rests in his beauty

on the water,

and the great heron feeds.
I come into the

peace of wild things
who do not tax

their lives with forethought
of grief.

I come into

the presence of still water.
And I feel above me

the day-blind stars
waiting with their light.

For the time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
