    "The Science of Kissing" - Part of the Sweet Valentine Event Series 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. 10th Floor, Axinn Library. "The Science of Kissing," a lecture by author and scientist Sheril Kirshenbaum. Presented by the Office of University Relations and Hofstra University Honors College. Sheril Kirshenbaum is the author of The Science of Kissing: What Our Lips Are Telling Us, a wonderfully witty and fascinating exploration of how and why we kiss. When did humans begin to kiss? Why is kissing integral to some cultures and alien to others? Do good kissers make the best lovers? And is that expensive lip-plumping gloss worth it? In the book and at the podium, she tackles these questions and more.

    Assess Yourself Series: VALUES. Common Hour, RM 105 Career Center. Defining what is important to you in your future work and lifestyle is essential when exploring possible careers. This workshop will help students gain insight into their values through interactive exercises and discussion. Students also learn how to keep their values in consideration during the job search process and why they are so important when deciding on a career path.     75 Stories for 75 Years. 9:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. David Filderman Gallery, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, Ninth Floor. In celebration of Hofstra University's 75th anniversary, this exhibition, guest curated by Geri Solomon, assistant dean of special collections and Hofstra University archivist, is drawn from the University Archives collection, which focuses on the history of the University, and highlights 75 stories from the University's past. Through the use of photographs, original documents, memorabilia and objects, the exhibition tells the stories of William and Kate Hofstra, the University presidents, and Hofstra students, faculty and staff. Included are anecdotes and descriptions of events that many will have forgotten, such as: Who were the founding sisters of Alpha Theta Beta? Who were James Barnard, George Williams and Olive Plunkett? What was the concept behind Aymar Embury's design of the campus? For more information: (516)463-5672.

    Become a Welcome Week Coordinator. Hofstra University Welcome Week Coordinators 2011 are responsible for every aspect of the Welcome Week Program.     Orientation Leaders Information Session. Orientation Leaders are upper-class Hofstra students who help plan and implement the Summer Orientation and Welcome Week programs. These students are responsible for helping incoming students with the transition to academic and co-curricular life on campus. During summer orientation, Orientation Leaders stay in the same residence halls and first-year students and lead them to sessions and give their perspective of college life. These are one of the most sought after leadership positions on campus.

    It's also one of the best summer jobs ever!

    Outsider Art Fair. February 11 - February 13. 7 West 34th Street, New York, NY. The Outsider Art Fair was the first to give a voice to talented artists outside the mainstream. Today, 19 years later, the fair still showcases those who create work that is "visionary, intuitive, primitive and self-taught in nature"-and while the fair has moved around over the years, many of its original dealers are still going strong.     The Valentine's Day That Changed America. 1:00p.m. Green-Wood Cemetery Chapel, 500 25th St (at Fifth Ave) Future Prez Theodore Roosevelt had one hell of a Valentine's Day in 1884: His mother and wife both passed away, of typhoid fever and kidney failure, respectively. How a young Teddy dealth with those tragedies will be the focus of a talk by Patricia O'Toole (When Trumpets Call: Theodore Roosevelt After the White House), followed by a tour of the ladies' graves by Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman.
