  • MUSIC FEST 2011

    Hofstra Music Fest 2011 is presented by Hofstra Concerts, Entertainment Unlimited, and Student Government Association to Benefit Road Recovery. This Saturday, May 7, 2011 in the Hofstra Intramural Fields from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. Come out and celebrate the 5th annual Hofstra Music Fest, hosted by your Homecoming King and Queen, Andrew Schuetz, and Brianna Gays! Last year the event brought in over 5,000 students and this year promises to be our biggest event yet.

    Enjoy LIVE MUSIC, FREE BBQ and ACTIVITIES, including our Obstacle Course, Gladiator Joust, Human Gyroscope, Mechanical Bull, and much more! This year musical entertainment will be provided by: Side Stage: Makin' Treble, The Pitch Drop Experiment, Sigma'capella, Kids with Guns, Breadheadz. Main Stage :Dirty Gems, Charlene Kaye, Bear Hands, London Souls, and Big Boi!

    Also enter raffles for a chance to win some great prizes such as an iPod shuffle, tickets to Lion King on Broadway, tickets to Six Flags Great Adventures, and many more. All proceeds benefit Road Recovery, an organization dedicated to helping children and young adults overcome addiction and other adversities through music, education, and support.

    This event is FREE for Hofstra students and faculty.

    Hofstra Gospel Ensemble: JOY NIGHT. 7:30p.m. Student Center Theater (doors open at 7:00pm) Hofstra Gospel Ensemble will hosting its heralded Joy Night concert. This is a FREE concert featuring HGE, Eternal Flow, T.R.U. Praise, Mime Minister David Thomas, and Tiffany Steele. The theme of the night is "Hold On" and it promises to be an uplifting and encouraging experience filled with great music and great ministry.

    75 Stories for 75 Years. 9:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. David Filderman Gallery, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, Ninth Floor. In celebration of Hofstra University's 75th anniversary, this exhibition, guest curated by Geri Solomon, assistant dean of special collections and Hofstra University archivist, is drawn from the University Archives collection, which focuses on the history of the University, and highlights 75 stories from the University's past. Through the use of photographs, original documents, memorabilia and objects, the exhibition tells the stories of William and Kate Hofstra, the University presidents, and Hofstra students, faculty and staff. Included are anecdotes and descriptions of events that many will have forgotten, such as: Who were the founding sisters of Alpha Theta Beta? It's a postclassical free-for-all when the Chiaras and electro duo Matmos play tracks from their recent New Amsterdam disc featuring a pair of Jefferson Friedman's atmospheric string quartets, straight and remixed.     Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York 10028. A four-time British Designer of the Year, 40-year-old Alexander McQueen was already an icon in the fashion world when he tragically took his own life in February 2010. Following his death, appreciation for the innovative designer's bold work has only grown, culminating in the Metropolitan Museum of Art honoring McQueen with this major, career-spanning exhibition.
