Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ, Jim casual 8-2014
Please know that it is not too late for you to participate in our Scripture memory challenge called "Renewal."  The idea is to memorize 24 verses of scripture in 2018 by adding one verse to your memory work on the 1st and 15th of every month. That is just 2 verses a month! You can learn more about the details at the Renewal Facebook page.
The nice thing is that if you are not on Facebook, you can do this on your own and choose your own set of verses.  If you are behind, then John 11:25: "Jesus wept." will get you caught up!  It is the shortest verse in the Bible, but one that can encourage us to grieve the loss of a loved one because Jesus wept when his friend Lazarus died.
Here are some verses from our current sermon series on Jeremiah that you may consider memorizing:
  1.  Jeremiah 1:5
  2.  Jeremiah 1:7-8
  3.  Jeremiah 7:11
  4.  Jeremiah 9:24
  5.  Jeremiah 10:23
  6.  Jeremiah 16:21
  7.  Jeremiah 17:5
  8.  Jeremiah 17:6
  9.  Jeremiah 17:7
  10.  Jeremiah 17:8
  11.  Jeremiah 17:9
  12.  Jeremiah 17:14
  13.  Jeremiah 18:6
  14.  Jeremiah 19:10
  15.  Jeremiah 19:11
  16.  Jeremiah 23:5
  17.  Jeremiah 24:7
  18.  Jeremiah 29:11
  19.  Jeremiah 31:3
  20.  Jeremiah 31:33
  21.  Jeremiah 31:34
  22.  Jeremiah 31:29
  23.  Jeremiah 31:30
  24.  Jeremiah 33:3
If you would prefer to memorize verses from the New Testament, you may want to look at these from the first 8 chapters of Paul's letter to the Romans:
  1.  Romans 1:16
  2.  Romans 1:25
  3.  Romans 1:28
  4.  Romans 3:10-11
  5.  Romans 3:23-14
  6.  Romans 4:3
  7.  Romans 4:7-8
  8.  Romans 5:6
  9.  Romans 5:8
  10.  Romans 5:10
  11. Romans 5:18
  12. Romans 6:1-2
  13. Romans 6:23
  14. Romans 7:15
  15. Romans 7:20
  16. Romans 8:1-2
  17. Romans 8:5
  18. Romans 8:9
  19. Romans 8:15
  20. Romans 8:26
  21. Romans 8:27
  22. Romans 8:28
  23. Romans 8:30
  24. Romans 8:37-38
God's Word is rich and there are so many passages of Scripture that we would want to commit to memory.  You may want to memorize a chapter of Scripture (Romans 8 would be excellent!), or Paul's definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 or the beatitudes in Matthew 5 or the "I ams" of Jesus found in John's gospel (include also Exodus 3:14).
But don't let this simply be an intellectual challenge.  Meditate or chew on God's Word and let transform you more and more into the image of Jesus.
In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

Sermon Series:    Jeremiah-The Reluctant Prophet
What does it mean to have faith in a world of tremendous difficulty?  How do we live out a life of faith when others don't?  The prophet Jeremiah can help us answer these questions.  Jeremiah had a hard life.  God called him to preach to the people and tell them to repent but the message was rejected.  His hometown plotted against him.  He was persecuted and thrown into a cistern.  His ministry yielded only two converts.  Yet, he believed and remained faithful to his Lord.  Let's learn together what it means to serve the Lord in the face of hardship and rejection by studying this great prophet of God.  A more in-depth class on Jeremiah will be offered on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  The only book needed for this course is your Bible.

Stephen Ministry  is our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. These connections are confidential and matched up by gender. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whose life seems barren and forlorn because of crisis or tragedy.  What do Stephen Ministers do?  These individuals listen to people in need, explore feelings, pray, share Christ's love, maintain confidentiality, and attend to the care-giving process, while leaving the results to God.  Stephen Ministers have big hearts.  If you are feeling unloved or need a friend, contact  Jon Myers  at (803)727-0322 , referral coordinator for men, or  Carol Perrin  at (803)917-6690 , the referral coordinator for women.
