Isaiah 6:8 "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here I am Lord, send me!"

On August 25, 2017 the eye of Hurricane Harvey moved over Rockport, TX. On Easter Sunday 2018, a SGPC mission team of 5 youth and 11 adults, stepped out of their comfort zones and headed to Rockport. While there was no list of projects or skills provided in advance, our Lord matched the right people with what he needed done. We arrived to see most of the hardest work had been completed, but the community was still trying to regain some sense of normalcy.

We were warned about rattlesnakes, black widow spiders, stinging caterpillars and swarming mosquitoes. We came back to our dorm each evening tired and dirty. However, there were still smiles, giggles, laughter and hugs everywhere we went.
Our youth built fences, carried sacks of concrete, restored farm sheds and shoveled horse manure from pastures using a wheelbarrow with one good wheel. When the wheel fell off, they used buckets. They spent time with children and animals that needed hugs and attention. While we worked to restore lost property, we were mindful to share the love of Christ with others.

God supplied the right people and the right tools!

One of our last photos says it all. The leader in the picture is carrying a shovel and post hole diggers. He is followed by a line of tired team members. Our work was finished. The picture reminds us that we should all be exhausted when we step out of our comfort zones into God's work. When we hear the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send?" We should all be ready to say, "Here I am. Send Me!"

In His Hands,
Loretta Gobbel
