Library News: Library Welcomes 'Career Transitions of Greater Boston'

The Tewksbury Public Library is pleased to announce that Career Transitions of Greater Boston is moving to our library this summer!  
Career Transitions of Greater Boston offer free supportive, interactive workshops for professionals who are unemployed or seeking to expand their career options.  The group meets every Tuesday, 10am-12:30pm. Meetings consist of: Networking (10am-10:15am); Introductions & Elevator Pitches (10:15am-11am); Interactive Facilitated Workshop (11am-noon); and Accountability Exercise (noon-12:30pm).  No registration is required.  Dress is business casual.

Group leaders and facilitators consist of certified career coaches: Deborah Burkholder (of Appia), Suzanne Gray (of The Entrepreneur's Source), Kim Meninger (of Great Heights Coaching), Tom McDonough (of Appia), and Margie Pascetta (of The Entrepreneur's Source).  To learn more about the group, visit their website and LinkedIn page. Note that the group has previously met at the Burlington Public Library for the past several years.

If you are one of the 900+ Tewksbury residents currently unemployed, or one of the countless who are underemployed or looking to change jobs, please consider attending a workshop!  Workshops begin this Tuesday, July 8 at 10am.

Online Resource Spotlight: Universal Class

The Tewksbury Public Library offers residents more than 100 online research resources and databases. The library's newest addition is Universal Class, providing residents with access to more than 500 online continuing education courses, from accounting and nutrition to reiki and gardening! These free classes are self-paced and instructor-led, with certified instructors available to answer questions and assess your performance. Universal Class is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), allowing students to earn CEUs (continuing education units) on approved courses. E-Book Spotlight: Safari Books Online

The Tewksbury Public Library encourages residents to access free e-books through its six e-book platforms, including Safari Books Online. This platform offers a premier on-demand digital library of more than 8,000 technology and business books & videos.  Explore Safari Books Online HERE!


Museum Pass Spotlight: Science Museum

The Tewksbury Public Library provides residents with more than a dozen discount passes to area museums and zoos. One of those passes is for the Museum of Science.  The pass admits up to four people at a cost of $7 per person.  Without the pass, admission is $23 for adults, $21 for seniors, and $20 for children!  Learn more about the pass program, or reserve a pass, HERE!

Community Partnership Spotlight: 
Elisabeth Desmarais Honorary Scholarship

The Tewksbury Public Library strives to build and maintain strong relationships with non-profit and charitable organizations in the community, and with the various boards, committees and commissions in town. Last week, the Friends of the Library and Library Trustees presented Mitchell Szmyt with the 2014 Elisabeth Desmarais Honorary Scholarship. Mitchell is a life-long Tewksbury resident and graduate of the Shawsheen Tech. He'll be attending UMASS Dartmouth in the fall to study Visual Design and Digital Media.  Mitchell, a member of the National Honor Society, has been a valuable volunteer at the library for the past two years.

The Tewksbury Public Library takes great pride in the support it receives from patrons, donors, and volunteers. This week, staff is asking the library community to take an online survey HEREThe answers to these 20 questions will help the library evaluate its services and plan for the future. The library also asks respondents to share the survey with Tewksbury friends and neighbors.  Paper copies are also available at the library's front desk.
