"Desperation in His Voice"
by AVC Service Coordinator, Jonetta Ferguson
Last Thursday, we received a call from a local disabled man suffering from Parkinson's disease. He needed help with his water heater. He said that water was leaking from it and running into the closet inside his mobile home.
I prayed with him, he needed help right away! I suggested that he call the gas company and Area Agency on Aging to see if one of them could give him immediate help. He called back after contacting each company and no one was able to help. I could hear the desperation in his voice.
I told him that I would take his AVC application for help over the phone and would see If I could contact one of our volunteers to come out and check the water heater. The volunteer that I called usually does not answer his phone right away, but, he does eventually return our calls. When I called, he answered (Praise God!) and went immediately to see if he could help.
The volunteer reported back that he could not fix the water heater and the man would have to purchase a new one. Water had ruined the flooring inside the home. But, there is hope. Later the same day, the Area Agency on Aging called back and committed to help with a portion of the purchase for a new water heater.
God is so good and He does answer prayer. His Glory was revealed!
We at AVC work to connect volunteers and partner agencies to see community needs met!
