AUGUST 22, 2016 - IN THIS ISSUE
ONE WEEK TO GO...
Thanks to all of our fabulous parents who showed up and worked hard at our Set Up Our Space Night last Friday. We had at least 30 volunteers who worked through the afternoon to assemble furniture & stools, organize supplies, level books, clean furniture, and more!

Our visitors couldn't help but notice the beautiful new space that was built out this summer. These additional classrooms will be second grade homerooms and our world language classes! A big thank you to our friends at Trinity Partners who managed the construction and finished ahead of schedule. We also want to thank the Mehta family and Tresata for donating office furniture that will be used to outfit some of our new spaces, including our art room and teacher planning lounge.

Speaking of new construction, our playground is really taking shape. Thanks to the support of so many families and friends, we raised more than $130,000, and we were able to move forward with our full vision for the playground. As you know, it has been our goal to have the playground finished before the first day of school, however we have experienced a few delays including an unexpected drainage project and some additional paperwork with Mecklenburg county. The good news is that we are on track to finish Phase 1 of the project soon! (It could still be next week, but it will be a photo finish!) Thanks to our successful fundraising, we will also be able to fully implement Phase 2 (the stage and the hangout zone) and some added features (think big sail shades) in the coming month. Stay tuned for the big reveal.... We promise it will be worth the wait.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary Moss Brown
Head of School

A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES MR. SINGH
It is so exciting to be growing this year as a school. We have lots of new students and a handful of new teachers. Our Exceptional Child (EC) department has grown, as well. Brittany Newswanger will be our 2nd to 5th grade EC Math teacher and Maria Pollara will be our 2nd to 5th grade EC English Language Arts teacher. With our EC teachers divided by content area, they are now able to truly focus on and become experts in their subject areas. I will continue to serve in my current capacity, as well as teaching ELA and Math for Kindergarten & 1st Grade. Shannon Fersner will expand her role as an EC Teacher Assistant and work with Kindergarten and First Grade.  Andrea Miller is coming back from a great year interning with us to become our Student Support Assistant,  with her primary focus on 2nd grade.

While we are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Bartlett who has chosen to leave Charlotte Lab and  pursue her passion  working with students with hearing impairments, we are excited by the energy and expertise our EC staff will bring this year.

We will also continue to partner with Crossway Pediatric Therapy for our Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Therapy, and Physical Therapy services.  Introductory letters from our therapists will be coming soon, as well as student schedules.

We are looking forward to working with your kids, and I encourage you to reach out to me via email if you have any specific questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you again!

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS
