AUGUST 29, 2016 - IN THIS ISSUE
WE DID IT!
We kicked off our second academic year. It was so exciting to see all of our new and returning students fill the hallways this morning. I saw lots of smiles, a few tears (mostly from kindergarten parents), and an amazing group of staff and students ready to get started with the amazing year we have planned. We have so many exciting things planned this year--from field trips to enrichment to an emphasis on personalized learning in all subjects and better ways for you to know (and see!) exactly what your child is learning. Please stay tuned for more information about your child's curriculum, which will be sent home this Friday in your child's green folder.

I also want to take a moment to thank all of our parents for their patience with our dismissal process this afternoon. I understand that for some families it was confusing and it definitely took longer than we had hoped. We anticipate that it will continue to improve each day, and we are taking steps to streamline the process. We also want to ask for your assistance with the following things:

  • Don't forget, there is a difference between car-rider line and walker line; students line up in different parts of the school so please try to pick up in the correct location. Parents of car riders will line up on Brevard Street and Walkers (or parents who are parking and walking to the student entrance) should park at the 422 E. 9th Street lot.
  • Do not jump ahead in car rider line or attempt to bypass it. It is unsafe and unfair to those who are waiting and following the proper procedures.
  • All changes to your child's standard transportation method must be made through our online Daily Transportation Form before 2:00 pm each day. No phone calls, please.
  • Do not line up on Brevard St. street prior to 3:30 pm. We must load our buses first, and therefore any cars lined up before the buses will be asked to leave the lot and circle the block.
  • If you are in a rush, the walker line often moves faster than car-rider line.
  • If you have any other transportation questions, please read the Special Transportation Edition of our enewsletter.
  • Finally, I ask for your patience as we refine our processes and procedures, as well as your commitment to treating all of our staff with respect and as you would like to be treated. Our job is to keep your child safe at all times, and there are specific reasons for all of our transportation policies and procedures.
Thank you for being part of the Lab family. Have a great night.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary Moss Brown
