This Week at Charlotte Lab School
|
|
Dear Families:
Thank you to everyone who came out for Curriculum Night last week! We were happy to see many of our returning and new families in attendance. Our teachers reviewed grade-level expectations, student learning objectives, and helpful resources for parents.
I was also excited to share updates related to our Lab's mission and vision:
- Diverse by Design: Lab serves 46% Students of Color, employs 45% People of Color, and 31% of our students come from Economically Disadvantaged Households. We are on track to meet goal of 40% EDS by 2020, ensuring that our school reflects the demographics of our community.
- The Community is Our Classroom: Lab partners with over 15 Charlotte-based organizations, and, on average, students at Lab participate in three outings each month.
- Lifelong Wellness: On an annual survey of Mindsets, Essential Skills and Habits, Lab outperforms schools in our national cohort in all areas, including growth mindset, rigorous expectations, engagement, self-awareness, sense of belonging, and teacher-student relationships
- Success in College: Lab outperforms the State and District in reading on MAP and EOGs and met growth in EOG reading.
- Success in a Global Workplace: 80% of 6th grade students and 95% of 7th grade students (who have been at Lab for at least two years) scored at or above the High School Level 1 equivalent for their language on the STAMP proficiency test.
In case you missed it, you can view the leadership presentation as well as all of the grade level presentation on the
website. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event, Assessment Night, on October 16!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Moss
Executive Director

Believe it or not, Lab school made close to
$1000 from Box Tops last year!
It’s a simple way to earn free money for our school. Simply look for the box tops on packaged items, clip them out, and send them in with your child. We will begin collecting for this school year on
Friday, October 5. At the end of each trimester, the homeroom that has collected the most will get a pizza party.

Optimal Breakfasts for Optimal Learning
|
Breakfast is no doubt, the most important meal of your day. Studies show individuals who eat breakfast have more energy, better cognitive function and memory, and a lower BMI than individuals who skip it. Further, eating a
well-balanced morning meal is instrumental in stabilizing blood sugar and combating fatigue. And
school children especially benefit: it sets them up to be more focused and have greater concentration so they be successful at school.
