POWER OF PARTNERSHIP
Dear Parents,

I am pleased to share with you exciting news for Charlotte Lab School.  We are teaming up with Tresata, a local big-data firm, to increase the use of technology at Lab.  This is a natural partnership for many reasons including our shared, strong commitment to integrating technology into elementary education and helping students develop 21st century skills. You can read more about Tresata and the partnership in the Charlotte Business Journal, and we were also featured in today's Charlotte Agenda!

Working together, Tresta and Lab share an interest in developing a model for what it means to be a 'technologically adept school.' For us, this doesn't simply mean every child has a device, rather we focus on enhancing the learning experience with the right devices.  Through this partnership, Tresata becomes the lead technology sponsor for the school, making a big commitment to our Maker lab, Quest, and STEM initiatives, as well as adapting its analytics software to help solve for some of education's biggest challenges.

Tresata CEO Abhishek Mehta shared the motivation for the partnership.  "We have always been energized by the power education has to shape the future, our future, and in Charlotte Lab School, we found a partner who is equally energized by it. Your vision to personalize education for each student is a lovely extension of our promise to enrich life, and we are excited by how our powerful analytics platform can enable the same and empower kids to be successful individuals."

The support that Tresata will give to Lab over the next 5 years, including donation of equipment, talent, and event sponsorship, is valued at $50,000. It is public-private partnerships such as this one that are a key ingredient to improving public education for all, providing truly innovative learning, and preparing students for college and the global workplace.  This relationship will also augment the Maker/STEM curriculum by enhancing our intellectual knowledge base.

Please join us for a kick-off event to celebrate our partnership on March 14. Parents and students are invited to a PI Night event (get it? 3.14) for a one-of-a-kind Mime-matics presentation by Dr. Tim Chartier, professional mime and mathematician; math games; and a pizza dinner, all sposored by Tresata. Event details and RSVP information will be coming soon

Mr. Mehta's connection to Lab is both professional and personal. He explained, "My wife, Shweta, and I are also proud to be Lab parents. Our two daughters, grades 1 and 4, benefit from the school's unique educational approaches to  teaching, learning, and supporting whole child development. Charlotte Lab School is truly helping to prepare children for the real world."

Please join me in thanking Tresata and the Mehta family for their generous support of our school. And, stay tuned for more details about this exciting partnership.

Sincerely,

Mary Moss Brown

NEWS WORTH REPEATING
The World Languages team is requesting photos of students and families that represent your culture. Please send in a photo (hard copy or digitally to [email protected]) that includes your student and a product or practice that represents your culture. These do not necessarily need to be related to a particular heritage or nationality; we would love to know about your family or community's culture, too!
  • PRODUCTS could include anything that a group uses or makes: favorite foods, money, monuments, heirlooms, games, jewelry, musical instrument, etc.

  • PRACTICES could include the things that you do normally with a group: traditions, celebrations, greetings, rite of passage, habits, manners, how you travel, something that you do every weekend, a mealtime or bedtime routine, etc.
If you (as a parent) are interested in sharing more about a culture, please let us know here:   bit.ly/labtravels . Please feel free to contact any World Languages teacher if you have any questions!
