Milk Drive

MILKDRIVE - MAY 24

MilkDrive, the Austin alt-folk-progressive acoustic string band, released its debut studio album in April 2011, ROAD FROM HOME, produced in Nashville by Bil VornDick (Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck, Bob Dylan, Ralph Stanley). It actually got its start in the northern climes of Idaho, where principal songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Noah Jeffries grew up playing bluegrass and gospel in his family's band and started writing amazing tunes at age 14. The first band he put together, 36 String Swing, toured the state as Jeffries studied jazz performance at Boise State University. He also played with Jason Boland and the Stragglers for seven years.

THE SPRING STANDARDS - WED JUN 13

The following is a brief summation of the sounds and spirit of The Spring Standards. Born and bred in the Delaware Valley, this trio of songsters now call Brooklyn, New York their home, like much of their musical brethren. Comprised of a lass named Heather and two boys named James, the songs they Smith will Robb your heart, that much is Cleare. Brought up on the music of their elders, they drew much of their inspiration from those times, learning the power of song from artists you all know, The Beatles, James Taylor, Crosby, Stills and the other one. Longtime friends and cohorts, by the time any of us had heard of them, they'd been working on their craft and crafting their works for many years under many names, with their passion for vocal harmony always in their foremost thoughtsfor seven years.

POSSESSED BY PAUL JAMES / Delaney Davidson - FRI JUNE 22

Possessed By Paul James is the stage name of multi-instrumentalist Konrad Wert. He was raised Mennonite with Amish roots in the swamps of Immokalee, Florida and presently resides with his wife and two sons in the Hill Country of Texas.  Wert's performances are so energetic that he could easily be mistaken for a small crowd. His songs are very honest. Not only are they completely personal and sincere, but they transcend identity and touch on the human condition.  "Possessed is just... possessed by experiences and family (Paul and Melvin James)," Wert says. "...I connect with that, with the beauty of the brokenness, innocence and/or ugliness." PPJ has been around now since 2006 touring domestically and internationally.

They're bound by music and an uncommon depth of companionship, they're good enough to make Steve Earle swoon, and all of that sounds quite nice."Sometimes the 'couple' thing can seem a bit schmaltzy. Faun Fables

FAUN FABLES
/ Le Leek Electrique / Daniel Markham - FRI SEPT 7

FAUN FABLES is made to explore human pathos amid an animate earth with musical & physical storytelling forms. It has been attracting a devoted and eclectic following since 1997 with numerous performances throughout North America, Europe, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and four record releases distributed worldwide on Drag City Records: EARLY SONG, MOTHER TWILIGHT, FAMILY ALBUM and THE TRANSIT RIDER. Dawn McCarthy is a writer, singer and theater artist whose work is a sea of gorgeous elemental nitty gritty; haunting melodies, breath, stomping, and natural theatricality led by the voice, rooted in the physical body. It is a crossroads where ancient ballad, art song, physical theater and rock music meet. Her lyrics speak to people of all ages about things like rugged housekeeping, street kids, growing old, sleepwalking and exiled travelers returning home.
