Goodwin Wins New England EPA Award The College's green and environmental efforts have not gone unnoticed. In fact, Goodwin is the winner of a 2011 Environmental Merit Award, given annually by the New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The College was selected in recognition of revitalizing a former brownfield and turning it into a beautiful campus. The EPA will present the award to Goodwin representatives on Wednesday, April 25, during a presentation at the historic Faneuil Hall in Boston.
Parking Lot Repainting, Weather Permitting Mother Nature prevented the start of parking lot line stripping and painting today. The College still hopes to have the job done this week while students are on break and things are a little less busy in the lot. As crews work through the job, please heed signs advising drivers where to avoid.
Big Milestones For Nursing Students and Faculty We're pleased to send our kudos to the Goodwin College Nursing Program on a series of milestones from the past week! First, congratulations to all the graduates of the program who were pinned last Thursday. Next, we are pleased to announce that Instructor Marcia Scanlon has been named a winner of the prestigious Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. The VNA will present the award to Scanlon at a gala event in Hartford on Thursday, May 10. Last but not least, let's hear it for students Nicole Conover and Veronica Gonzalez, who last week were both awarded $500 scholarships, also by the Nightingale program.
State Honors Student Joel Garcia Speaking of Nursing Students in the news, congratulations, Joel Garcia! Last week, the Connecticut General Assembly honored Joel during the 15th Annual College Academic Day celebration at the State Capitol on Wednesday. Joel was selected because of his scholastic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. Check our Facebook page to see a photo of Joel with State Rep. Richard Roy and Goodwin Dean of Students Sandy Wirth.

Trivia
Tax cheats proved less challenging to our readers than to the IRS. Several people responded correctly to last week, identifying Al Capone as Scarface, who spent most of his jail sentence at the infamous Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco. Chris Boudreu, your name was drawn from all the right answers. Nicely done. Enjoy a soda on us.
This Week: American Publications
Allow us a moment to celebrate. This Week at Goodwin is celebrating its one-year anniversary of publication! We first released this newsletter on April 18, 2011, enlightening you all with Goodwin info, events and happenings, and this trivia section. In recognition, this week's category is all about newspapers and online news sites. Answer all five and win your chance at the free soda.
1. With its motto "All the News That's Fit to Print," this daily newspaper is one of the nation's largest.
2. Woodward and Bernstein were working for this newspaper when they began investigating Watergate, the scandal that brought down President Nixon in 1974.
3. This magazine, launched in 1888, has brought the world to its readers, with beautiful photographs of people, places, and animals from across the globe.
4. You may be surprised to learn that the most circulated magazines in the United States aren't produced by Time Inc. or Hearst, but rather this large organization for retirees.
5. Even before The Daily Show, this satirical newspaper and popular website was making light of the news with headlines like "Study: Red Meat Takes Years Off Of Cow's Life."
Please email your responses to Matt at Mengelhardt@goodwin.edu.
