Fresh Expressions
Today is a busy day on Grace UMC's campus! In addition to the staff working throughout the building, 250 clergy and laity are gathering for an event hosted by GBGM's Center for Mission Innovation. This Fresh Expressions Spark Day has drawn great interest in the North Georgia conference as it aims to help existing churches meet the challenge of the current and coming age. But what is a Fresh Expression? Simply stated, it is a movement of church for people who don't do church. More technically, it is:

"an international movement of missionary disciples cultivating new kinds of church alongside existing congregations to more effectively engage our growing post-Christian society."

Each Fresh Expression of church grows out of the prayerful discernment of clergy and laity and from listening to the needs of the context in which a congregation sits. Because they are based on the communities in which they occur, Fresh Expressions can take many forms from church in a tattoo parlor to kayak church. Really, the sky is the limit when it comes to the innovative ways God has called these communities! I think it is always important to hear how the Holy Spirit is moving in our world and in our church; so, I am excited to glean some wisdom from brothers and sisters who are reaching new people for Christ through this movement. I look forward to sharing with you all what I learn from today's event. I thank you all for being a wonderful and welcoming congregation and I take pride in our connection with GBGM that allows us to welcome sisters and brothers in faith who are excited to bring Fresh Expressions of church to our world.

Peace,

Pastor Stacey
