It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving and Advent are almost upon us! If you're anything like me, you're already starting to get wrapped up in the anticipation
of preparing for family meals, seasonal travel, and holiday gatherings. It's an exciting time, to be sure. But in the midst of all of the busy days, it's easy to feel like we're losing our grounding. It can be overwhelming.
One of the great gifts of Christian communities like Grace is that we can strengthen and support each other through times of joy and times of anxiety. In that spirit, we'll be using this weekly reflection over the coming weeks as a place to share prayers and other resources to help you center your heart and mind on God and community this holiday season.
In the meantime, though, I wanted to be sure that you were all aware of two upcoming opportunities to engage in spiritual growth and fellowship at Grace.
Pre-Advent Workshop: Getting Ready to Get Ready
Saturday, Nov. 19 | 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM | Grace Café
The holidays are just around the corner! Unfortunately, for many people that also means the busiest and most stressful part of the year is also beginning. The pre-Advent retreat will be a time for preparing your heart and mind for the coming of Christ before the stress of the holiday season hits. Following the Advent candles which represent love, joy, peace, and hope, we will read and discuss literary selections from female theologians. We will also practice related spiritual disciplines that can be used throughout the Advent season as you celebrate and await the coming of Christ. Complementary children's activities will be provided upon request. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign-up, and be sure to let us know if you plan to bring children. Consider bringing a donation to offset the cost of lunch.
EarthKeepers Commissioning and Pie Bake-Off
Sunday, Nov. 20 | 11:00 AM
This Sunday in our worship, Global Ministries will commission its first ever class of EarthKeepers! Roughly 45 missionaries from around the world will be commissioned to serve in ministry to God's creation. It's a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for the gifts of God's bounty as we mark the Thanksgiving holiday and celebrate the dedication of these servant leaders. Immediately following the service, Grace will host our annual Pie Bake-off in the Living Room (formerly the Fellowship Hall). Simply bring two of your favorite pie recipe to share, and we'll vote on our favorites. We'll be sharing this celebration of fellowship with the new EarthKeepers, so we need plenty of pies and helpers! Email email@example.com to help bake or serve!
I hope that you will make time to join us for one or both of these events and find a place of peace, hope, love and joy at Grace as we enter the holiday season!
