HV Parking Protocol & Dogs on Campus

From Dr. Schmidt:

Dear Harbor View Community,

Over the past several years, we have been very proactive in revamping our drop-off and pick-up procedures to ensure efficiency, safety, and access. However, recently, it has become apparent that we need to revisit several of these protocols.

1. Please be respectful and courteous to our staff who are on duty during drop off and pick up. Their job is to ensure expedient and safe drop off and pick up. Please follow their instructions when it comes to moving forward or staying in your car. They are all following my directives and district/board policy. If you have concerns, please come see me, but know that rudeness, profanity, and vulgarity have NO PLACE at any time on our school campus, especially during pick-up or drop-off.

2. If you use the upper playground for parking and walking your child to class, please note that you must be on the playground BEFORE 8:15. In addition, we need all cars off the upper playground and the gates locked by 8:25 (which is 5 minutes after the tardy bell).

3. Please drive slowly (10 mph or slower) when entering campus parking lots and designated drop-off/pick-up areas. Small students often dart between cars making it essential that drivers are approaching the parking lots as if their own children might suddenly dash between cars and into traffic.

4. Finally, dogs (even those on leashes) cannot be on campus at any time (including after-school classes!). This is a district policy that we are needing to enforce better. Even if your dog is small enough to be carried, it cannot come through the gates. If you need to have your dog with you, you may walk them to the gates or keep them briefly in your car (with the windows open, please) as you escort your child onto campus.

Thank you for your attention to these important procedures and expectations as we work to ensure safety for our entire community.

If you have any questions or would like to set up a time to meet with me to discuss this further, either call 949-515-6940 or email me  tschmidt@nmusd.us .

Have a great day!
