LDCRF KIDS AND TEENS HELPING TO SOLVE

 THE PROBLEM OF PET HOMELESSNESS

Jenna and Priyanshu are great examples of the power of our teen volunteers. They chose to organize an animal supply drive for LDCRF as their high school IB Middle Years Program Personal Project. Yesterday, Jenna spent 4 hours at the Weber's Pet Supermarket in Herndon, collecting donations and supplies for both the animals and humans at the Lost Dog Ranch in Sumerduck, VA.

Every year, our younger volunteers make inspiring contributions: from Haley's fundraising dog walk last September, which raised more than $700, to bake sales, yard sales, and contributions in lieu of birthday presents, like Allison did in November (pictured below).

There are so many ways kids and teens can help solve the pet homelessness problem. One of the easiest is to be a volunteer at one of our 11 weekend adoption events. Volunteers who are at least 14 years old can sign up with a parent, and those who are 17 years old or older can volunteer on their own. After volunteering for almost a year, 17 year old Kaita says,

"I always said I loved dogs, but now I really know what it takes to interact with dogs, and also with people."

More ideas for younger volunteers can be found on our "Kids and Teens" website page HERE. Creative types can also contribute to our Paws for Art Show and Sale in April (details below). Ideas for fundraising drives and collections should be sent to Fundraising@lostdogrescue.org for approval.

YOUR ARTWORK CAN HELP SAVE LIVES!

SUBMISSIONS NEEDED FOR PAWS FOR ART SHOW

Art can do so much - it can inspire us, move us, make us think, and make us take action. This April, your artwork can help us save more lives, and help us raise awareness of LDCRF. If you are a professional or aspiring artist, please consider contributing to the first ever LDCRF Paws for Art Show and Sale, which will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 11:00 AM-3:00 PM, at the Great Falls Library, Great Falls, VA. Donations of work in any media - photography, mixed media, sculpture, drawing, or painting  - will be gratefully accepted for display and sale, with the proceeds going toward the care and medical treatment of our rescued dogs and cats. Creative teen volunteers are also invited to submit work that is inspired by their participation in LDCRF. For more information, contact lostdogmarisa@gmail.com

FEATURED PET OF THE WEEK: BEAUTIFUL PERLA

Estimates of the number of stray and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico - an area just twice the size of Rhode Island - range from 100,000 to 250,000, and LDCRF is fortunate to play a small role in addressing the problem. Like many other dogs in Puerto Rico, Perla, a 14 month old pitbull blend, was found wandering the streets. She is a perfect example of a Puerto Rican gem - stunningly beautiful with her snowy coat, she is also quiet, good with other dogs, good in the car, and good with kids. One of her most endearing traits is her huge appetite for love and affection. Her favorite things in life include cuddling, playing with her toys, and, above all, being with her people. For more information on this beauty, contact her foster at cuthbertson_megan@bah.com.
