Online Exhibit: Working Women of the Old Port This exhibit explores the many places and ways that women worked in Portland in the early 20th century--from canneries and schools, to department stores. The exhibit is based on the book, Working Women of the Old Port: A Portland Women's History Trail. Hands-On Historic Gardening Workshop
Presenter: Jeff O'Donal, Owner, O'Donal's Nursery
Join us for a hands-on exploration of the issues and opportunities in maintaining or re-creating a historic garden. Using the Longfellow Garden as a laboratory, participants will be introduced to an array of locally-available plantings, consider which plants are appropriate in a variety of settings, and identify specific plants to introduce at home. This program is free but registration by Wednesday, June 22 is required. Space is limited. Call 207-774-1822.

Set Sail on the Wendameen with Historian Jim Millinger
Join MHS for a sail on Casco Bay on board the historic Maine schooner Wendameen. Jim Millinger, Portland Harbor historian, former MHS Trustee, and Casco Bay Lines skipper, will be our host, and will talk about the harbor's past and present. The 88-foot Wendameen, designed by John Alden, one of America's most celebrated yacht designers, was built in East Boothbay in 1912. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Help the crew raise the sails, take a turn at the wheel, or just relax and enjoy the talk and the scenery. This program is a perennial favorite and sells out quickly. Space limited. MHS receives State Historic Preservation Award for Renovation of
Brown Library and Garden
Maine Preservation has awarded MHS a 2011 Statewide Historic Preservation Honor Award for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Brown Library and Longfellow Garden. The award was presented at a ceremony on June 9 at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston.

Sunday, noon - 4pm. Tours on the hour, last tour at 4pm.
