"Can you tell us about a time when you felt broken and hurting and the church came alongside you as a loving community?"

"The time the church most clearly demonstrated this sort of love to me was when I transitioned out of college and moved all the way from Arizona to South Carolina. In a time when so many things were new for me, it was crucial to be supported by the loving Body of Christ. The church guided me through an intimidating time of facing a new job, new living situation, and a whole different phase of life. Help came from several different avenues, but Journey Group was particularly beneficial. Being able to share new struggles I was facing with men who had already faced similar circumstances made adjusting to a new life so much more doable. They were able to use their own personal difficulties in life to help navigate me through unfamiliar territory. It's like the Brennan Manning quote Andy used in the sermon "In Love's service, only wounded soldiers can serve." God uses hard circumstances to teach and to strengthen us to a point where we can help others. I hope I can demonstrate the same sort of love I was shown through my Journey Group (and through so many other ways at MR) as I go along through life."

Let's take ownership of our community by serving the church if only once a month. Together we can build an even more amazing space for worship.

-Nursery team (children from 6 weeks to 3 years old) - Spend time interacting with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers by reading and playing with them. This is a great chance to care for our youngest church attendees and an easy way of doing your part to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. No diaper changes required!

-Children's ministry team (childcare in K4 through 4th grade) - Teach or assist in Sunday school or children's church. Another great chance to build relationships and share the love of Jesus with the kids of our congregation and their families.

-Greeting team - Help welcome our members and guests alike by being a friendly first impression at one of our four main doors. This is a great job to serve with a friend or spouse, or as a family.

-Parking team - Help with shuttles from our outer lots, direct people to available parking spaces and keep our parking lot running smoothly. This volunteer job is rain or shine and is great place to serve with a friend.

-Usher team - Hand out bulletins, help people find seats, and pass the offering plate for any of our three services.

Email Frances Lightcap at  flightcap@mitchellroad.org  to discuss where you might want to jump in and serve.
