“Can you tell us about a time when you were suffering and you felt The Lord comforting you?"

When my son, Harrison was born last December, he was not breathing. I was confused about what was happening and unsure whether he was going to live. The medical team immediately whisked him away to clear his lungs & airways, but all I wanted was to hold my baby. For about an hour, I had no idea what was happening – my husband was with Harrison and the medical team in NICU. I remember asking God, “Would you have me come so far only to lose my child?” I then thought of Jesus’s death on the cross for my (our) sins. God sent his only son as the ultimate sacrifice. I realized that the Father knows the searing pain of losing his child. Though I could not yet hold Harrison, the Father was holding me. During the hours following Harrison’s traumatic birth, I felt the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. I was able to cling to hope as we learned that Harrison would be okay. He is now a thriving 7 month old and there isn’t a day when I don’t thank God for sparing Harrison’s life and comforting us during such a frightening experience. I pray that He continues to comfort all who do mourn the loss of a child or loved one. He is near to the broken-hearted.
