By following Jesus and reaching out to others, we seek God's transformation of ourselves and our world.
Greetings!
Please join us for our 2018 Missions Celebration -- April 13-15
Celebration Theme: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.  Psalm 105:1

We will have activities for the whole family to enjoy!

  • Catered barbecue dinner on Friday night.
  • New Friday Night Junior Youth & Youth Event sponsored by Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
  • Programs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday; light breakfast and lunch provided.
  • Themed pot luck supper of International Food on Saturday night.
  • Missionary speakers, youth and children’s programs and wonderful music.

Our 2018 Faith Promise goal is $350,000 which supports 145 missionaries, 11 mission organizations, and 8 mission projects in 36 countries worldwide.

Thank you for your support of the Faith Promise Missions Budget each year! The Faith Promise Mission’s Budget is separate from the general budget of the church and is funded by faith promises. A faith promise is when you make a promise to provide financial support to missions, you may not know where the resources will come from, and you trust God to provide the resources to meet your promise.

Missions Celebration Key Note Speakers
John and Lisa Hamilton are the One Mission Society (OMS) team leaders for Uruguay. After serving 10 years in various pastoral and team roles in Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia, John and Lisa moved to Montevideo in early 2003. The OMS team in Uruguay currently works in partnership with Christ Church, an interdenominational church in Carrasco, an eastern suburb of Montevideo. In addition to leading the OMS team, John serves as lead pastor for Christ Church. Lisa participates in counseling, children’s ministries, women’s discipleship, and mentoring emerging leaders in the church community.

Women's Spring Boutique
Women's Spring Boutique
May 3rd & 4th
The Spring and Fall Women's Boutiques are the biggest sources of income for the UMW that benefits missionaries, local groups, short-term mission teams, women's programs, and Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Additionally, this requires a lot of support from individuals to set-up, run the event, and clean up.

Please note: If we don't have enough support, we will have to cancel the event, so please sign up if you are able to help so that we know how much assistance we will have.

  • The Spring Boutique will be held on Thursday, May 3rd, from 8am-7pm and Friday, May 4th, from 8am-2pm.
  • Set up begins immediately after services on April 29th, with lunch provided.
  • Set up continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday -- come just for an hour or two to help organize and prepare for the big sale days.
  • Clean up will take place on Friday evening with a family friendly event including childcare, food, and entertainment for the kids.
  • Many people are needed on Thursday and Friday to work as cashiers, baggers, or floaters. No experience necessary!

Adult Classes
Saturday Morning Men's Bible Study
We invite all men, whether current Pender members or not, to join us for the Saturday morning Bible Study starting at 8 am each week. We are now studying the Gospel of Luke. After a fellowship breakfast, we delve into the Word of God, and discuss how it applies to us in our day-to-day lives. We welcome your participation, regardless of your prior depth of knowledge of the Bible. Come and be blessed, and if you have any questions or comments, please contact Peter Kotiah.

Bethany 9:30am Sunday School Class
Bethany Sunday School Class plans to donate Talbot Davis books to the church Library. This class usually studies the “Adult Bible Studies” quarterly series by Cokesbury. To take a break from the Cokesbury studies, the class has been blessed to study three Talbot Davis books in the last year or so:

  • “Solve: Finding God’s Solutions in a World of Problems” (2016)
  • “The Storm Before the Calm: Making Sense of Life’s Troubles” (2015)
  • “Headscratchers: When the Words of Jesus Don’t Make Sense” (2015)

Our class really enjoyed these books and learned a tremendous amount and our class thinks the congregation will also enjoy these books.

In the future, the class plans to study two more Talbot Davis books:

  • The Shadow of a Doubt: Confronting Challenges to Faith (2015)
  • Crash Test Dummies: Surprising Lessons from the Book of Judges (2017)

All are welcome to join us any time.
