Sunday School in July!
Genesis Bible Study & Preaching Series this July
Teach Sunday School this Fall
From the Rector

Dear St. Patrick's,

Grace and peace. I write you from a beautifully mild 75 degree day with a clear blue sky sprinkled with puffy white clouds. That would be how I would begin if I was in Brasilia, Brazil. In DC, it is a stifling, windless, and suffocating day with temperatures in the 90's which feels like the 100's. I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful summer. Andrea and I are learning and growing spiritually with the preaching and Bible study on Genesis. I hope that you are, as well. If you missed a Sunday, please read or listen to the sermons (links to our blog are below).

Communication about what is happening at St. Patrick's continues to be a focus of our ongoing efforts to involve more people in the ministry of this parish. We continue to revise and refresh our website to provide timely information to newcomers and experienced members of the parish. We are making an effort to post something about St. Patrick's everyday whether it is an article pointing to an important ministry, a practice for spiritual growth, or a picture that captures what is going on around the Parish. If you use Facebook or Twitter, please show St. Patrick's some love by connecting with us. It is easy and will keep you more up-to-date with your parish family.

Music Update

Jean-Luc Princivil Our resident Countertenor, Jean-Luc Princivil, will be here this Sunday to sing two arias; one by the English master, Handel, the other by the French master Gabriel Faur. Now just what is a Countertenor, you might ask? It is a male singing in a very high voice, most commonly in the alto range (usually a female voice range). For male singers, this involves developing the second-mode, pure "head register" voice commonly called "falsetto." The history of the countertenor stretches back to medieval times and some of the first examples of polyphonic (multi-part) music, with the range stepping higher approaching the Baroque period (think Bach and Handel) where the countertenor voice reached its full glory. There was a resurgence of interest in the early 20th century and the renowned composer, Benjamin Britten wrote several major works that included the countertenor voice. Contemporary singers such as David Daniels have continued the tradition. Be sure and check it out!

Campaign to Replace Nave Chairs Continues

We have raised enough money via Nave chair dedications to replace half of our aging black Nave chairs, and placed an order for those 120 chairs to arrive in October. But we still have a ways to go, so please click here for a form to dedicate a Nave chair (or more!).

Many thanks to those who have already dedicated chairs!
