Jubilate Deo Musical--All Children Invited to Church for this Toe-tapping Event!
Sunday Participants

From the Rector

Dear St. Patrick's,

Grace and peace! I have some happy news to share with you. First, the Rev.

Irv Lindenblad
The Rev. Irv Lindenblad

Irv Lindenblad was honored as Pastor Emeritus of Palisades Community Church last Sunday. As many of you know, Irv served at The Palisades Community Church while working as a scientist at the Naval Observatory. During his retirement, Irv has been an active member of St. Patrick's. Another joy is the birth, on February 22 at 4:44am, of Lila Frances Kean (7.8 pounds, 20 in.). We send congratulations to Eliza, Patrick, Avery, and Louisa.

The Vestry met in retreat earlier this month to make action plans for the coming year. Each week, I am reviewing one of the five sub-committee's plans for the coming year. This week, I am reviewing the work of the once named Alternate Fundraising Committee. The members of this committee recruited former Senior Warden Mike Tongour, who is known for his ability to create catchy acronyms. This is, no doubt, due to his work on the Hill. The group is now SPARC (St. Patrick's Alternative Revenue Committee).

SPARC is born from the need to meet the budget deficit resulting from the shortfall in our pledging income. Our current budget expects the efforts of this committee to generate $30,000. Earlier this fiscal year, the group sponsored a raffle, the casino night dinner party, and several smaller fundraisers. The final event of the fiscal year is the wine tasting event on May 7th hosted by the Grohs. Enthusiastic support and participation of everyone is essential to meet the budgetary goals.

There are big plans for 2011. SPARC's fundraising goal for next fiscal year is $65,000. For those of you, like me, who are relatively new to St. Patrick's, the anchor event is the auction to benefit the Parish of St. Patrick's. This is an event different from the Day School Auction. Marilyn Nowalk will lead this year's auction with assistance from Amy Graham. This year's auction will occur on October 29th, in conjunction with the Centennial celebrations, and will focus on community web and special trip items.

SPARC's goals are to close the deficit, create fellowship, elicit more parish participation, educate about planned giving, and diversify activities so that there is something for everyone. With increased pledges, the need for SPARC will diminish and our efforts can be put on other ministries. That is in our future. Right now, the hard work of this team provides the foundation to meet our goals. You can help. Connect with Junior Warden Charlie Johnson IV if you can lend your support to SPARC.

Faithfully,

Music Update

Are We There Yet?The Mini-musical from our Jubilate Deo 3rd - 6th graders is THIS SUNDAY!  And no...it's not a Simpsons musical (though that might be kind of fun too....) Seriously, it's a great take on the Moses story, taking the Israelites from their toil in Egypt "cracking rocks beside the Nile" through the barren desert despite their whining, "complaining's our favorite food."  The kids are doing a terrific job with some fun music so get ready to sit back and enjoy one of the great stories of our faith.

Next up, March 6, Our Jazz Eucharist with Vince McCool and "the guys." Don't forget to Invite-a-Friend

Then, March 13 Feast Day and Family Choir!  Please join us (and wear your best St. Patrick's green) to help lead worship on our "special day"!  Donuts at 9:15.

Youth Group News

This Saturday, Feb. 26, Urban Experience with Samaritan Ministry for our 6th-9th graders.  Meet at St. Pat's at 9:00am and let me know you are coming. adele@stpatrickschurchdc.org

Then, Tuesday, March 8, Youth Groups (6th - 12th graders) cook pancakes for Shrove Tuesday pancake supper.  Watch for a sign-up email.  Please plan to help.

Lenten Preparation Class 9:00am on Sundays

Join our Seminarian Henry McQueen Sunday mornings through March 6th from 9:00am to 9:50am for a study of how a Rule of Life can impact your Lenten journey and your arrival at the Easter Resurrection. For centuries monastic communities have lived intentionally through a rule of life; we will explore how a rule of life can be shaped to affect our own lives.

We will look at the history, the practice and the application of Rules of Life.  At our last session we will be prepared to begin our Lenten journey with Ash Wednesday just several days hence.  You will be encouraged to live your own Rule of Life during Lent; with the celebration of Easter you can then choose whether to maintain, modify, or abandon your personal Rule of Life.

Caregivers' Group at St. Patrick's

Heart and Hands

St. Patrick's is again offering a forum for those caring for elderly or chronically-ill family members to come together to share ideas, resources, and most of all, faith.

If you or someone you know is negotiating the ups and downs of family caregiving, come to St. Patrick's on Thursday nights,

7-8 pm. Participants need not come every week.
