How Are St. Patrick's Parishioners Keeping Lent?
Enrich Your Worship Experience: Come to a Lenten Lunch & Worship Workshop
Come to a Dialogue Sermon this Sunday, after the 10 am Service
From the Rector

Dear St. Patrick's,

Grace and peace. Lent is a time for "self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word." (BCP, 265) Lent is known as a time to simplify so as to recall God's role and mission in our life: to learn to become better Christians. Remember that there are countless ways to make this a reality, but there are some available at St. Patrick's this Lent.

There is meditative walking on the new labyrinth on Wednesdays from 11am-8pm (allocate at least 15 minutes) in the Great Hall, a new worship called Seek at 5:00pm on Sundays, and a Lenten book study recommended by Bishop Mariann. I hope that you are finding ways to focus your spiritual journey during Lent. Your clergy are available to talk about ways to live into Lent. Please contact Andrea or me if you would like to talk.

Dee Zeller, Director of Camp Wright, will be at St. Patrick's for the 10am worship service this Sunday. During the fellowship time, she will be available to meet with those interested in camp. I will serve as the camp chaplain at Camp Wright for session 2 (June 23-29). Consider sending your child (age 7-14).

Faithfully,

Lenten Luncheon & Worship Workshop

Tuesday, March 20th

11:30 am - 1:30 pm, Church Library

This Lent, you are invited to deepen your worship experience. Come to a luncheon co-hosted by Andrea Martin & Altar Guild Director emeritus, Monique Ploss.  Monique and Andrea will offer a fun show-and-tell of the objects that we use each Sunday to enrich our worship. Come learn why we use certain objects, their history, and how they help us respond to God. As Monique resigns from the altar guild after 25 years of dedicated and loving service, we will also recognize her behind-the-scenes service to St. Patrick's.

Reserve a spot for lunch by emailing Andrea, andrea@stpatrickschurchdc.org

Please email the Rev. Andrea Martin, andrea@stpatrickschurchdc.org to reserve a space.

Episcopal Summer Camp at Camp Wright or Camp EDOW

Summer camp is a great way to get kids outside, teach independence, and build friendships. Like last year, Father Kurt Gerhard will serve as the chaplain at Camp Wright on Kent Island on the shores of the Chesapeake for their Session 2 (June 23-29, 2012). Camp Wright is an Episcopal Camp sponsored by our neighboring diocese open to kids ages 7-14. Last year, eight St. Patrick's children joined Kurt for this week at Camp Wright. Camp Wright is a well-established camp program about an hour from St. Patrick's with about 140 residential campers in each week-long session.

In addition to Camp Wright, Kurt has also been working with a committee to develop a new camp for the Diocese of Washington that will begin this summer. Camp EDOW (for rising 4th - 8th graders) will be held at Camp Maria in St. Mary's County in Southern Maryland from August 5-10, 2012. It is a traditional camp with an Episcopal flair. In this first year, Camp EDOW is limited to the first 50 registrations.

Both of these camps are excellent ways to build faith-filled community while enjoying the beauty of nature, and are loads of fun. More information and links to the programs are found on the St. Pat's website. If you need financial support or if you would like to help a young person enjoy camp, please let Kurt know.

Samaritan Ministry Spring Gala on March 10, 2012

SMGW LogoThe Samaritan Ministry Spring Gala is around the corner!

Please join us for a special, fun-filled evening on Saturday March 10th. This year we will be honoring our dear director David Downes for his 10 years of devoted service to this special 'angel of mercy' organization! Newscaster Maureen Bunyan will be our Master of Ceremonies, & Carter Echols [former long-time director] and David Beers [long-time parishioner] will be the auctioneers.

We will be selling tickets in the Great Hall during the coffee hour this Sunday and for the next three Sundays. Please stop after church to buy a ticket. Let's make sure St. Patrick's has a big contingent at the Gala!  ~Peggy Beers

Rummage Sale Reminder!

It's time to start thinking about Rummage Sale which will be on Saturday, April 21st from 8:00am to 2:00pm. We need EVERYONE to participate in this major benefit for the Outreach and Social Concerns Committee by donating items to sell, helping to sort items, setting up the Sale on Thursday, April 19th and Friday, April 20th and working the Sale and clean-up on Saturday, April 21st.

We all benefit from the Rummage Sale:  clean out the clutter, meet fellow parishioners in a fun working atmosphere, and serve a part of the community that we don't always see at St. Patrick's that really depends on our sale for affordable shopping and access to goods they might not otherwise be able to obtain.

And the funds we raise, support our work in Haiti, at SOME, and at the food pantry at St. Philip's, Anacostia.

We need to start signing up our volunteers--is this your year to help run the Rummage Sale? Contact Karen in the Church Office.

St. Patrick's Feast Day Save the DATE!

We will celebrate our Saint's Feast Day on Sunday, March 18th this year, so plan to be at the 10am Holy Eucharist which will be followed by a festive pot luck lunch! Please let me know if you want to be a part of the Stew Crew, and we're adding on this year the Shepherd's Pie Crew!

Everyone else: last names beginning:

A - M, please bring salad or side dish

N - Zarabozo please bring brownies

This is a great day every year, and the only time we play bingo during the coffee hour! Wear green!
