From the Rector
Dear St. Patrick's,
We are getting really close to the grand celebration beginning our centennial year. Many of you are in the trenches getting things ready for the celebration. I send you my deep gratitude. There is still much to do. First, I hope that you have RSVPed for the Holy Ghosts and Goblins Dinner, Auction, and Dancing on October 29th. Second, I hope that you are planning to worship with St. Patrick's on October 30th at 10am. The Most Reverend Frank Griswold will be our preacher, Adele has chosen music that relates to our history, Andrea will be leading a special centennial Children's chapel, and a family picnic (with food cooked by the Grilling Guild) and a haunted house (created by the Youth Group) for the younger kids follows immediately after the service. Let's just say that this will be a once in a century celebration. I hope that you will be there because we are a community where everyone is welcome and everyone is important to the whole.
Last Sunday, we dedicated the new chairs in the chapel and the na ve. Many thanks to all those who made dedications (list). The chairs are an investment in the future of St. Patrick's. Many future parishioners, students, parents, faculty, staff, neighbors will put them to good use as we begin the next 100 years of St. Patrick's.
Our brother in Christ Chapin Carpenter died this past Friday. The outpouring of love to the Carpenters is an awesome testimony to the love of this community for Chapin and his family. Ele asks, in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to St. Patrick's specifying the Chapin Carpenter Fund. The money will be dedicated to something at St. Patrick's to remember the many gifts he shared with this community over the years, and at the same time will serve future generations of St. Patrick's parishioners. A memorial service celebrating the life of Chapin Carpenter will be held at St. Patrick's on November 6, 2011 at 2:00p.m. All are welcome. Faithfully,
Read or listen to this past Sunday's sermon titled, "Presenting an Image." |
Prayer List
We pray for Chapin Carpenter who died on Friday, and for his friends and family, especially his wife Ele Carpenter and his sister Anne Carpenter. A memorial service will be held here at St. Patrick's on Sunday, November 6th at 2pm.
We give thanks for the birth of Edward Siebert, born on Saturday, October 15th to Oksana and Graham Siebert, a former parishioner of St. Patrick's now living in Kiev.
We pray for Raleigh Daniel who died on October 11, and for his friends and family, especially his wife Dorothy Daniel, a long-time parishioner who faithfully attends the 8am service.

Sunday School Children to Begin a New Unit, 101 Ways to Pray
This Sunday, October 23, Sunday School children in Nursery School - Grade 6 will begin an important unit, 101 Ways to Pray. Over the next 4 weeks, children will learn about many different kinds of prayer, including:
The Lord's Prayer
Yoga & Walking Prayer
Praying with Prayer Beads (and making them)
Thank you to: Jocelyn Brown Hall, Claudia Hill, Janet Lee, & Seymour("Sey") Zimmerman for leading workshops.
Parents make the best teachers. During the weeks of this unit, we hope you will spend some time talking with your child about the prayers that are meaningful to you and your family. More than that, we encourage you to spend time praying WITH your child. Meal blessings and/or bedtime prayers are a natural way to start, but so is taking a walk outside and naming things for which you are both thankful. You may also want to use this time to help your child learn the words to the Lord's Prayer.

Music Update
Our 7th/8th Grade St. Patrick's Peal have some great music ready to play for us this Sunday. They have been gathering to rehearse as part of our combined music and Christian education program that meets on Sunday evenings. Have a 7th or 8th grader who would like to participate? Let me know and I'll have a part waiting for them when we begin our next session!
Throughout this month, and in fact, throughout this music year we will be celebrating the rich 100 year history of our Parish. We will hear special music from all of our groups this month as we approach our anniversary, mix the past with the present in music for our Centennial service, and celebrate the beginning of our next 100 years in a special All Saints' Sunday service on Nov. 6, including music from our "nearly resident" Vince McCool jazz band. So, sing out strong as we all join together in joyful thanks and celebration for this wonderful place called St. Patrick's!
