Last Day of Sunday School, June 3rd
From the Rector

Dear St. Patrick's,

Grace and peace and Happy Pentecost! This past Sunday we welcomed two new Christians into the Christian family: Jean-Anatole Luc Princivil and Wells Katherine Hope Wharton. Pentecost fell this year on Memorial Day weekend, so it was a time to remember all those whose sacrifice has made our freedom possible.

We are going through some transitions here at St. Patrick's. Beginning on July 1, the Church will do its own bookkeeping rather than contracting with the Day School's Business Office. In order to make that happen, I have hired Lisa Mould to serve as our part-time bookkeeper. Lisa is experienced in business management and financial services, and is currently the Senior Warden of St. David's Episcopal Church. A native of Tennessee with a stint in Atlanta, she now lives with her family in the Spring Valley neighborhood. Lisa is already on the job making preparations for the July 1st transition. I am excited that she has joined our team.

I was recently contacted by another priest about providing temporary housing to a Haitian-American who is transitioning to the Washington area and to the nursing staff at Sibley Hospital. Our apartment under the Great Hall is vacant, so I am offering it as a low-rent option until she can get on her feet. Francisco and Ana Iglesias lived in the apartment for almost twenty years, so the space needs a good cleaning and new carpet. It also needs some furnishings. I am hoping that you might be able to help with donations. The items most is need are a kitchen table and a bed (by mid-June). I consider this a wonderful opportunity to expand on our long-standing Haiti ministry right here at home.

Remember that this Sunday we celebrate our graduating seniors and our Sunday School teachers. Please join us!

Faithfully,

Kurt

Outreach Meeting on Monday, June 11 at 7:30pm

We are planning a meeting on our various ministries at St. Patrick's, so if you've been looking for a way to get involved in our work in Haiti, at the St. Philip's Food Pantry, at Samaritan Ministry, or if you'd like to learn more about these programs, among others, please join us. There will be updates from those involved, and a chance to ask questions about these programs.

Questions? Contact John Canellakis at johncanellakis@gmail.com.

Also, don't forget to bring in some canned fruit, soup, meat, peanut butter & jelly or cold cereal for the St. Philip's Food Pantry--we need to do a summer blitz to fill the shelves which were mighty bare when we went last week!

We Need to Know About Your Graduates!

It is graduation season, and we'd like to list your graduates in the June 3rd bulletin. Please email Karen (churchoffice@stpatrickschurchdc.org)  by tomorrow with info on school and degree. Let us know if they will be in church on June 3rd so we can honor them at the announcements during the 10am service.

We are looking for not only high school and college graduates, but any other honors that should be noted!

Music at St. Patrick's

We need YOU to help us make music here at St. Patrick's.  How can you help?

If you like to sing, or play an instrument, or you want your kids to feel more a part of their church community, spend some time now thinking about how it might fit into your schedule next season. Then, send me an email (adele@stpatrickschurchdc.org) or give me a call (202-342-2823) and we'll find just the right combination for you and your family!

How about being a Family Choir leader?

Commit to showing up at 9:30 5-6 times a year and helping lead worship with a simple anthem and hymns.

Want to do a little more?

Commit to trying to make just one rehearsal a month for Cantoris Choir and singing on festival Sundays and a few others throughout the year.

Want to get your kids involved?

Commit to 5-6 Friday Afternoons for your K-2nd grader

Commit to making the schedule work for your 3rd-6th grader to sing with Jubilate Deo

Sign your 7th-8th grader up to join the Sunday evening sessions of Handbells and Cambiata Choir

How about those Timpani Drums?

This one's easy -- just let me know a Sunday you (or your 5th grade or older family member) would like to play and we'll work out a rehearsal time during the week.

There is a lot of music to make throughout the year and we really do NEED you!

An Opportunity to Help Someone Furnish an Apartment

Did you miss the deadline to donate to last month's Rummage Sale? We are looking for a full or queen-sized bed frame, dining table and chairs (not more than 4 or 6 seats), and other comfortable chairs for a living room. Please contact Karen (churchoffice@stpatrickschurchdc.org) if you have items such as these to donate.
