This Week at the Levitt Pavilion
June 8-12
Movies under the stars!
First up: Inside Out

Wednesday morning:  The Levitt's Children's Concerts return at 9:30 a.m. with the  rockin' three-piece power pop band from North Carolina, Big Bang Boom . The trio consists of talented artists, long-time musicians and dynamic dads, Chuck Folds (Ben Folds' brother), Steve Willard and Eddie Walker. They write and perform songs with a pop sensibility that cleverly mix alternative, hip-hop, pop, country and other genres to create music just for kids. Their concert is sponsored by WFAA.

Wednesday night: Family Movie Night debuts at 7:30 p.m. with the Pixar crowd-pleaser, Inside Out. It's about young Riley, who is  uproo ted from her peaceful life in the Midwest and forced to move to San Francisco. As she navigates a new city and a new school, her emotional headquarters becomes a hot bed of activity. Joy (the voice of Amy Poehler) attempts to keep Riley feeling happy and positive about the move, while other emotions like Fear (the voice of Bill Hader), Anger (the voice of Lewis Black), Disgust (the voice of Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) make the transition a bit more complicated. The movie is rated PG. Family Movie night is possible thanks to a generous grant from Women Inspiring Philanthropy.

Thursday: Singer/songwriter, Steve Poltz is anything but mundane. Over the course of his life, he's met Elvis Presley (who hugged his sister for far too long), trick or treated at Liberace's house (each finger had a diamond ring), was Bob Hope's favorite altar boy (according to him), bravely traveled the world as a street performer, famously co-wrote You Were Meant For Me with Jewel, angered David Cassidy and can count some of the world's coolest people as fans. Steve brings his improvisational song skills to the Levitt at 8 p.m., sponsored by the Sheraton Arlington. He performs without a set list so he can react instantly to his audience for a truly original show each time.

Friday:  Few bands embody the "new Nashville" better than the quintet known as Humming House, taking the Levitt stage at 8 p.m. It's in the way they weave together threads of Music City's folk, soul and bluegrass legacies with inspirational, revealing songwriting. It's also in their acoustic instrumentation, presenting mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar and bass in fresh roles. Their most recent recording, Revelries , mixes bluegrass and Celtic with vintage swing and 1960s hootenanny folk music. Their concert is sponsored by the Star-Telegram.

Saturday:  The Dirty River Boys , performing at 8 p.m., make music with the type of sound and texture that's soaked in the realities of the hard-scrabble city they call home in the far west Texas desert. They're known for their four-part harmonies and stout acoustic instrumentation. Harmonicas and fiddles cut melodies that blend with furious licks spilling from guitars and mandolins alongside explosive percussive rhythms all combined to create a whirling dervish of musicality. Their appearance is sponsored by Viridian.

Sunday: If you've been a fan of NBC's The Voice since it began, you may remember Aquile
from season three, when the singer/songwriter won over three of the four coaches with his pop/soul artistry. Or maybe you attended the Levitt's benefit concert last year with Kenny Loggins and caught Aquile as the opening act. He returns to the Levitt at 8 p.m. for a concert of his own sponsored by Legend Records and the Caffey Group.
