It's another Wonderful Wednesday and
we don't want you to miss a thing!
Here's what's going on This Week in North Baldwin:
Community colleges face challenges, but remain a gateway to prosperity

Al Thompson is a Bay Minette Native and the vice president of the board of trustees for the Alabama Community College System.

He represents District 1, which includes the southwestern corner of Alabama. He is a former member of the Alabama State Board of Education and an alumnus of Faulkner State Community College, and owns Thompson Properties in Baldwin County.

He recently wrote this opinion piece on the Community College system in Alabama. Because of the importance of Faulkner State and work force training to North Baldwin we wanted to share this with our members and the community.

FAULKNER STATE Community College is launching a new program to connect local water and wastewater employers to a pool of interested students: the next generation of water and wastewater professionals in our area. The program will prepare students to take the certification
test(s) required to work in this field.

Water and wastewater management
careers are interesting, stable, local and  profitable - and they are here to stay.  Whether these students are new to the  field or upgrading their skills, they are crucial to help close the gap between current workforce projections and expected retirements within the next decade.

Classes start this summer!

At the start of the new school year, Baldwin County Public School students in grades 3 through 12 will receive a Chromebook computer designed to support academic achievement.

To avoid parents from incurring any fees related to damages, an approved backpack will be required in order for students to take the Chromebook home.

The Baldwin County Education Coalition is proud to offer a convenient and cost-effective option for quality backpacks that meet school systems requirements  for students to take their digital device home. The cost includes delivery directly to your home, plus a 3% rebate to the Education Coalition to invest in teacher professional development. CLICK HERE for more details on the program!

On June 9, the Baldwin County Education Coalition hosted an official launch event to announce Baldwin County's participation in the ACT Work Ready Communities program at 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.

On a broader scale, the Southwest Alabama Region launched an initiative for each county to obtain certification as an ACT Work Ready Community. Achieving certification demonstrates a community-based framework that links workforce development to education, aligns with economic development needs, and matches individuals to jobs based on skill levels.
