Children's Sermon
for May 28 (based on John 17:1-11):  Items needed:  Plant in pot, tarp or newspaper to work over.  Beforehand, loosen the soil in  the     pot so you can pull the plant out easily when the time comes.  Show kids the plant and ask them what are the names of the different parts---the stem, the branches, the leaves, the flowers.  Now, what part of the plant do you NOT see----the roots.  Pull plant out of pot and show kids the roots.  Most people, when they look at a plant, they don't think of the roots because they don't see the roots.  But a plant couldn't live without roots!  Roots are how a plant gets food and water from the dirt.  In today's Bible reading, Jesus prays for the people who follow Him.  Even today, Jesus is still praying in Heaven for the people who follow Him.    And just like we don't usually see the roots of a plant, we also don't see Jesus praying for us right now.  But Jesus's prayers give us strength, just like the roots of a plant give the plant strength.  We can be thankful that Jesus is praying for us even today!
