Children's Sermon
for July 8 (based on Mark 6:1-13)
Items needed: a children's book.  Show kids book,  and read a page or two.  Then, say  you are going to "take a closer  look."  Hold the book right up against your face.  Ask kids why you can't read the book, now. It's because it's too close.  I can't read the story if it's too close.  In today's Bible reading, Jesus goes back to the place where He was a kid. But the people there were too close to Jesus to  get His story, just like I was too close to this book to read the story.  In other words, they knew Jesus when He was a kid, so now they wouldn't listen to His story about God, now that he wasn't a kid anymore.   This can help us to remember that sometimes God uses people that we don't expect to send us God's message.
