    Valentine Match-up
The PNEC and PSEC Joint Conference Visioning and Development Team (JCVDT) are inviting you to participate in a match up! Are you interested in learning about another faith community? Would you like to build a partnership with another church on mission? Maybe you would be interested in a partnership for pulpit exchange? If you have said yes to any of these questions, you are invited to participate in a Valentine's Day Match-up! The JCVDT is encouraging you to fill out your match profile, and we will partner you with another congregation in the PSEC. Our hope is that we will get to know each other and share ideas. Maybe your partnership is as simple as visiting one another for worship, or maybe it involves organizing a mission project together. That is up to you! We are hoping to get you connected to get to know one another. If you are interested in participating, please fill out your match profile and email it to Barbara Hanks at

Volunteers Needed for Spirit Alive: A New Spiritual Care Program for Residents with Dementia
The Spirit Alive program at Phoebe Ministries is
an innovative way of leading worship with residents who live in Phoebe's memory support neighborhoods. The program involves sharing stories with residents that illustrate great spiritual truths, such as God's love, care, and forgiveness. Based upon Montessori principles of engagement and specialized pastoral care practices, multi-sensory stimulation is used to convey each story and ensure full engagement by each member of the group. The Spirit Alive model is supported by research demonstrating its benefit for the mood and spiritual wellbeing of participants.
Phoebe is currently seeking volunteers who enjoy sharing stories of faith and interacting with older adults living with dementia, to lead small group sessions at skilled care centers in Allentown, Wernersville, Richlandtown and Wyncote.
A training session to become Spirit Alive Facilitators will be held from noon to 4:00 p.m. on February 23 and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on February 24, 2018 in the Meadow Glenn Personal Care Community on the Phoebe Richland Campus, 108 S. Main Street, Richlandtown. Attendance at both sessions is required.
To register or for more information, contact Alisha Tatem, Spirit Alive Coordinator, at or 610-927-8554 by February 8th.  Faith communities interested in beginning a Spirit Alive program at their place of worship are also welcome to inquire.

Children's Sermon
for Feb. 4(based on Mark 1:29-39):
Items needed: deck of Uno cards or regular cards, scotch tape.   Beforehand, partially rip three of the cards and place them a few cards below the top of the deck.  When the kids come up, show them the deck and then start working through the deck until you find the  ripped cards.  Tell the kids you want to fix the ripped cards and then use the tape to repair the rips on (ONLY) two of the cards..  Hold up the  cards and ask, shall I put them back in the deck, or keep them separate?  Answer is to put them back because they all belong together.  In today's Bible reading, Jesus goes around sharing God's message that each of us is like one of these cards--we all belong together because we are all God's children.  As Jesus went around sharing this message, sometimes He would find hurt people, like I found the ripped cards.  Jesus healed some of these hurt people, like I fixed two of the ripped cards.  Not all people were/are healed by Jesus, which is why I left one card ripped. Some of these f people joined Jesus, which is like becoming part of this deck of cards.  Others  just went off on their own (take one of the repaired cards and put off separate from the rest of the deck.)   But whether we are ripped, or fixed,  Jesus hopes we will all join together, like a deck of cards all piled together, because we are all God's children.

Letter from...The Rev. Dr. John C. Dorhauer,
General Minister and President, UCC

On April 4th on the mall in Washington DC, in an act commemorating the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. leaders from faith communities will gather for worship, and for truth-telling - calling the nation to seek healing from our racist legacies.
Events begin on April 3/worship at the Greek Orthodox church in DC.
Materials will soon be forthcoming inviting participants at every level to engage: from the local church through the Conferences to the National bodies.
If any of you want to begin to organize a gathering from your Conference to attend, I am sending you this link today to give you advance prep time.
If any of you want to contribute by telling the truth about your Conferences, or any churches within your Conference who wish to do so, I will be collecting those materials. I will be invited to speak the truth of the UCC and our predecessor bodies. Any stories you have that help unfold this story would be greatly appreciated.

3 Great Loves Wants to Come to
Your Congregation
The 3 Great Loves is the denomination's opportunity to express how our Love of Neighbor, Love of Children, and Love of Creation work together to address the inequities in our current world. To move this initiative forward in the Penn Northeast Conference, we have recruited Gary Barraco from Forks UCC to be our '3 Great Loves Ambassador'. Gary has been working with the National representative and Regional Ambassador to prepare our Conference to learn more about the 3 Great Loves program. Gary and others want to come to your church and deliver the Sunday morning message or present to a large group. He has put together a full liturgy for a worship serve, including suggested hymns, so we can come in with a pre-packaged service. To learn more, contact Gary at
