DONATIONS WELCOME! BUILD 3 NEW OBSTACLES AT EDGEWOOD PARK

Edgewood Skatepark is getting a long overdue upgrade. Last week repairs began on the existing park and next Spring an 8,000 SqFt extension will be constructed towards the river and the dogpark.

The skatepark contractor, Rampage, is willing to add a couple of new obstacles to the existing park as early as next week. Next week's project will be a small build of ledges and manny pad in between Coogan Pavillion and the existing pyramid.

The cost to create these ledges is quite affordable for what we will get, but it is beyond the city budget for the new skatepark and repairs.  We need $1,500 to construct these two obstacles. Some of this money will also go towards encapsulating and adding to the fun box in between the quarter pipes on the far side of the park.

This is a first step in an exciting new project to rebuild Edgewood. The city has commited signficant money in this effort and Rampage is donating materials. The last piece in a successul build will be community investment.  The community effort will take take volunteers to help with the build as well as a small financial commitment from neighbors, skaters and bmxers alike.  We're calling all skate park lovers and users to give what they can.

Edgewood skatepark is more than atheltic facility. Over the past 17 years it has become an essential part of the community that has made Edgewood Park the wonderful place we all enjoy today.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

Friday September 29, 2017, The New Haven Register, by Joe Amarante-  "Not just a four-weekend immersion into Connecticut's art scene, Artspace's City-Wide Open Studios is a convention for artists, a marketplace for art, peek at the creative process, and an edgy (or goofy) reflection of contemporary America in all its warts and glory.
The 20th-anniversary year of City-Wide Open Studios starts in high gear with a public reception (party, really) at nonprofit Artspace on Orange Street, free and open to all, Friday from 5-8 p.m., as part of First Friday Noodles on Nine. Every artist (out of 405 participating) will have something on display, said curator and gallery director Sarah Fritchey.  The street in front of Artspace will be closed off for a block party (weather permitting). And you can get an official map and guide of CWOS at Artspace.  Then comes Westville Weekend for the following two days of the first weekend, Armory Weekend Oct. 14-15, Private Studio Weekend Oct. 21-22, and Erector Square Weekend Oct. 28-29..." Ransom Pier: 8-9:30 pm
Tickets: $10 Adults

BUY TICKETS - $10

Ransom Pier's music offers listeners a combination of potent lyricism and technical prowess that places them firmly among the highest echelon of undiscovered acts along the Eastern seaboard. Their brand of rock draws unabashedly on the roots of the American songbook - from Dylan to Motown - with an ear to the future, and has been compared to a darker, edgier Lake Street Dive.

L'INDISCRET @DASILVA GALLERY

Join us for the opening of L'Indiscret, paintings by Chris McLaughlin!  The show will be up during regular gallery hours (Weds.-Sat. from 10-5) from October 6th to November 4th.

L'Indiscret uses strategies deployed by noir films, notably through the repeated figures of the shadows, blinds, cats, and mirrors, depicting characters in distorted, intimate environments as a way to understand contemporary anxiety. These paintings are juxtaposed with colorful, more whimsical works dealing with American attitudes toward culture, history, and religion. McLaughlin cites Fuseli, Hopper, Chambo, Fischel, and Watteau as influences during the creation of these works.
