Welcome Back
Popps Packing is excited to present "Welcome Back" an exhibition of selected works by Cristin Richard. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Cristin leads an in depth reflection around the notions of the body and identity. In the majority of her work, she reconstructs animal intestines into tangible objects, exploring the experience of the body in its perception and transformations. "Welcome Back" will be on view at Popps Emporium (across the street from Popps Packing) 2025 Carpenter, Detroit. Gallery hours: Saturdays 12-5 and by appointment

Opening Reception, Saturday May 20th,
6-9pm. [Hamtramck]

Show runs through June 17th.

Kiln Pad Pop-Up Exhibit: Annie E. Dennis
Annie E. Dennis, Cranbrook grad and Pewabic's Education Director, combines her love of ceramics with her love of plants for Pewabic's inaugural Kiln Pad Pop-Up Exhibition Sunday, May 21. Dennis describes ceramics and gardening as "both inward and outward, both a combination of art and science, both meditative in nature." Her beautifully carved planters will adorn Pewabic's kiln pad and courtyard, rain or shine, in this one day exhibition from 1 - 4 pm. Works are available for purchase on a cash-and-carry basis.

Opening Reception, Sunday May 21st,
1-4pm. [East Side, Detroit]

An Insurrection Mass With Funeral March for a Rotten Idea
The 2017 Outdoor Summer Series Kicks Off on May 17, 18 & 19 all starting at 7:00pm with Bread and Puppet Theater's "An Insurrection Mass With Funeral March for a Rotten Idea". During a short residency at CMAP, nationally renowned Bread & Puppet Theater will work with local community members to generate scenes for this large-scale interactive puppet performance in which a rotten idea is given an eulogy and then buried during a non-religious "Mass" complemented by readings, testimonials, songs and a fiddle sermon.

Kerry Downey: Nothing but net Opening Reception
Kerry Downey's first solo show, titled "Nothing but net," is a multidisciplinary project that explores their relationship between self and other and their movement between interior and exterior landscapes. Consisting of a large video projection and series of monotypes, this process-driven and experimental work contains many other mediums: painting, drawing, collage, performance, and text. This is a project that questions the boundaries of containment, what are the possibilities and limitations of a medium, of the body, and of visual and verbal languages.

Opening Reception, Saturday May 20th,
6-9pm. [North End, Detroit]
