Saturday!  Grunion on the Beach

The grunion will be running again on Saturday, April 23, by the breakwater rocks off Windward Avenue!

Fun for the whole family, this spring ritual occurs during the full and new moons. Grunion are the object of a unique recreational fishery. These fish are famous for their remarkable spawning behavior, which evokes an "I don't believe it!" response from people seeing or hearing about it for the first time.

Tuesday's Board Meeting:  Your Representatives Take Action

Tuesday's Board meeting was marked by a number of refreshing dialogues on issues relating to how our community is governed.

Called to order in the memory of former CD11 Councilperson Bill Rosendahl, the meeting included notice from State Assemblyperson Autumn Burke's Odysseius Bostick of his pending departure after receipt of a PhD grant in Tennessee; presentation of the Ad Hoc Mass, Scale and Character Committee's Drafr Report and public comment dates (see below) and preliminary designs for Rose Avenue bike lanes.

The Board also heard the Treasurer's monthly report and recommended that the Small Lot Subdivision Ordinance be amended to ensure compliance with local zoning and Specific Plans.   Full beach access was recommended for a land use project, a WRAC motion to enforce all zoning and building codes was supported and a motion was passed to request City support for repealing a city's ability to terminate a neighborhood's request to detach and form a new municipality.  In addition, the Board voted to support two new local Business Improvement "Groups as well as a bike corral outside Hinano's on Washington.
Finally, the Board welcomed David "Zuma Dogg" Saltzburg back to the Venice public forum after a years' long hiatus.

The VNC Board meets on the third Wednesday of every month, and is open to the public, with food and drink donated by local businesses.
