   HAPPY THURSDAY
FLASHERS!

There is an awful lot of fun and merriment going on out there and I hope you FLASHERS are getting a good dose of it! If you haven't had a chance... Make the time to have some fun!  The one thing you can always squeeze into your schedule is a drive around town in search of Christmas lights. There isn't a set time and you therefore have a pretty broad time option to get out and marvel at beautiful light displays. Okay...not only marvel at the lights, but at the fact that these people got them up before Christmas. Their strands of lights were working. And oh...Those displays that are synchronized to music??? Oh my! They deserve a 'Christmas Elf' Award! But however they get 'er done... I am glad they do, because I LOVE driving in search of lights! If we get a cold snap again...heat some apple cider and put it in a hot-to-go thermal cup and grab your Christmas CD on the way out the door...Yes, you can grab a santa hat if you'd like... and go have some fun! Your fellow FLASHERS have provided some input. I will continue to add to the list. So, take note while you are out and about and email FLASH the location of other light displays you run across. We don't need the exact address; a cross intersection location works just fine!'

I hope the following displays light up your holiday FLASHERS! :) A big hearty thank you to all FLASHERS who have submitted displays thus far. You put the sparkle in my world!

Samantha Curry -  2312 Cortez Ave -93.1fm
Light display to music from 6:00pm-9:00m

Kimberly Grassley - S ebastian on the corner of Smith Street and Jordan Ave.  (off Vocelle)

Jolene A. - Going north on US1, past Barefoot Bay, on the left side of US1:  GIANT house and yard with a boatload of lights.

*In Sebastian, if coming from 512, take right (going north) onto Fleming St. and go almost all the way to the end.  Right before Main St., on a side street on the right-hand side you'll see a huge display of lights.  I don't think there's a space not filled with lights on that house/yard.  You can definitely see it from Fleming, won't miss it.  You'll also see it if coming from Main St.and going south on Fleming.

Sandy Waltrip
You probably already know, but the few I'm going to visit I recently read about a huge display in Jupiter that has a huge display, Heathcote Gardens in Ft. Pierce and Tara Plantation at 7555 20th St.  I can't wait!!!!

Millie Portante
There is a house that is so beautiful with Christmas lights. It is on 20th Ave and 19th Street. The lights blink to the music on the radio station 99.1. Also, please do not forget the Lumineres in McAnish Park off of Rt. 60 on December 23.

Anonymous - A beautiful Christmas display in  Palm Beach Gardens.  (Snug Harbor Drive off Prosperity Farms Rd.)

There is still time to send me your submissions. You too will be entered for the give away that will include a $75 Facial from Aglow Skincare and a $25 AMX gift card.  With the number of submissions so far...You stand a fairly good chance to win! :) Click Here to email me. Next Wednesday is the deadline for submissions and I will announce the winner in next week's FLASH. :) Check out the Goodtime Getaway if you don't want to drive around yourself. They have a Christmas Light Tour on the 20th that sounds like a whole bunch of fun.  There is also a 'stocking packed' list of other things to enjoy. Make sure you take the time to look at the features below. Don't want you to miss the fun and remember to always tell everyone...'I SAW YOU ON FLASH!'

HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK
Sponsored by:

Stay Healthy during the Holidays

The holidays are supposed to be one of the most joyous times of the year, and while most people do feel positive emotions like happiness, love, and high spirits, others feel anxiety, grief and stress. Below are ways to minimize stress and anxiety so you can thoroughly enjoy this festive time of the year.
  • Set a spending budget.  Don't let others pressure you into spending more than you can afford.
  • Get plenty of exercise.  Physical activity stimulates the production of endorphins in the brain. Endorphins are brain chemicals that function as a natural painkiller. They can trigger a positive feeling in the body, boosting mood and reducing feelings of anxiety and stress.
  • Keep it simple.  Do not place unrealistic expectations for yourself. Everything doesn't have to be perfect, and you do not have to do everything yourself. Ask for help.
  • Take time for yourself.  Setting aside time for yourself is another great way to cope with stress. It is important to make time for yourself so you can clear your mind.

Keep Your Dogs and Cats Safe From Holiday Hazards

Here's a cute musical video from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that shows how easily our pets can get into mischief around the holidays. Just like us, their senses are aroused by the wonderful smells and foods, colorful lights, the tree in the living room and other holiday decorations. Their curiosity about these things can lead to danger. To view, Click here

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

I have always loved twice-baked white potatoes and I love sweet potatoes, but I never considered twice-baking them. This recipe is courtesy of Guy Fieri from the Food Network. What a good idea!

Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes
4 medium-size sweet potatoes
5 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pinch cayenne pepper
1/2 stick unsalted butter
Vegetable oil, for greasing roasting tray
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Lightly scrub the sweet potatoes under cold running water. Place the potatoes on a roasting tray and bake until tender, 1 hour 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow the potatoes to cool slightly before cutting off the top third of the potatoes lengthwise. Scoop out the flesh using a large spoon (leave enough on the base so the skin holds its shape) and reserve bases.
Add the potato flesh, 2 tablespoons of the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper and butter to a food processor. Process until the ingredients are completely combined and the puree is smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle a roasting tray with a little oil. Set the potato skin bases upright on the tray and fill with the mixture.
Combine the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and pecans in a small bowl. Sprinkle the top of each stuffed sweet potato with the sugar-pecan topping. Bake 10 minutes. Finish the potatoes under the broiler for the top to brown, 1 minute, if desired.

THE CAST OF CHICAGO FLIES INTO VERO

This month marks the 1-year anniversary since Elite Airways began flying into Vero Beach. There was a welcome group of over twenty people present this past Sunday to welcome the cast of Chicago ~ The Musical that will open at Riverside Theatre on January 3rd. The cast was welcomed with cheers, waving signs and gift bags from the airport and from Vero Beach FLASH. It was a heartwarming afternoon as the community came together to share the good-natured and warming spirit of our town!  Elite Airways recently announced an expansion of service from Vero that will include:  Tallahassee-FL, Asheville-NC.  This is such an incredible convenience and takes flying back to the way it used to be!
