The Weekender is a weekly publication of all the  fun and diverse events and entertainment happening  in  Downtown  Kingsport each  weekend!
LAMPLIGHT THEATRE: 
A.I.M. SHOWCASE
After a week-long conference focused on enhancing and developing their gifts in the arts, Participants will put on a showcase for their audience! Attendees will be given a great wealth of information to help guide their individual ministries in the direction the Lord leads.

Adam Steffey, Ron Stewart, Gary Hultman, Keith Garrett and Harold Nixon make up the group "The Boxcars." They are an award winning bluegrass band! Come out to Broad Street for some great music!

FUN FEST: MARDI GRAS
Mardi Gras is a fun and free day for kids and adults! There is a lot of entertainment lined up and there will be b ead tosses every hour! Come out and celebrate the beginning of our 2016 Fun Fest! This event is sponsored by Regions Bank.

FUN FEST PARADE
Help Fun Fest 2016 start off with the best parade in northeast Tennessee! Gather your friends, family, business associates, civic organization, etc. together and decorate your car or flat bed, build a float, or ride a bicycle to join the fun and fellowship that demonstrates the pride in our community. The parade travels Center Street, turns left onto Sullivan Street and ends at Clinchfield Street.

Join Sleepy Owl  in welcoming Harper and the Bears! They want you to dance to the sound of a generation! Through spring-laden rhythms and infectious melodies, veteran songwriter, JGP Harper, alongside co-conspirators Chase Garner and Brandon Byington, have crafted a singular sound that moves feet and opens hearts.

FUN FEST CAR SHOW
Whether your favorite car of the past is a street rod, race car, sports car, muscle car, special interest car, or authentic antique, you will find something of interest at this "Show and Shine" style gathering. Participating vehicles range from customized rods to foreign exotic and luxury cars, from Mustangs of the 60's and 70's to Model T's.  No admission charge to enjoy the show. Participants can register either prior to or at the event.

FUN FEST: 
REART AT THE RESTORE
Artists from around the community will face off in the ReArt arena in an artistic competition. The artists will have 4 hours to turn materials and items found in the ReStore into works of art. Event spectators will have an opportunity to cheer on and vote for their favorite artists. Voting will take place throughout the week at the ReStore and on Facebook. The winner will be announced on Saturday, July 23.

DOWNTOWN KINGSPORT ASSOCIATION: 
BUSKER FESTIVAL
This one-day event is meant to promote the age-old tradition of street performing - also known as "busking" - and encourages various types of performing artists to hone their crafts while performing publicly on the sidewalks of Downtown Kingsport.  You can experience the various eclectic performances from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. throughout historic Broad Street and Market Street in Downtown Kingsport. The Busker Fest is family-friendly, and will include special kid-oriented activities.

KINGSPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY: GENEOLOGY WORKSHOP
Join the Kingsport Public Library for a Genealogy Workshop entitled "We The People: How we used to look and what we used to do."
It will be an entertaining and informative session with local historian, Kenny Stallard, on how to use pictorial bios to enhance the family tree!

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH DINNER THEATER
First Baptist Church returns to the Fun Fest schedule with a dinner theater evening featuring music, games, and a 1-Act play, "Right Here in Ivy Hallow". Join Glenda and Geraldine as they welcome a variety of customers into their shop, and talk about the revival at the community church in Webster's Grove.  Come with your spouse or friends and enjoy an evening of good food and Christian humor!
Tickets are required and the cost is $10.

Mafair United Methodist Church's Music/Drama Team will present Cotton Patch Gospel by Tom Key and Harry Chapin. This musical depicts the life of Christ but set in today's time in the South.
