Parents, we're here for you too!

If you are the parent of a school age child - especially a North Carolina parent - you know the emphasis placed on testing. End-of-year testing. Beginning-of-the-year testing. Mid-year testing. Assessments do need to be made at the beginning of the year to provide a baseline, then throughout the year to see progress and growth. Everyone understands that, but what not be well understood is how schools and states are going to accomplish this. Keeping up with States' requirements has given some of us whiplash. Yes to Common Core! No to Common Core! You must pass Read to Achieve or else! You might not have to pass Read to Achieve! You have to go to summer school! You don't have to go to summer school but we really, really want you to go to summer school!

We know how you feel. We know how the teachers feel. Imagine how your children feel!

Many of the older children we have seen this summer to meet State summer school requirements are competent readers, but failed their end-of year tests due more to test anxiety than their ability. In our relaxed atmosphere, these children are shining and we are confident they will transfer the skills learned at Ballantyne Reading Academy to the classroom this fall.

This is what separates our program from others out there. We are NOT a test-prep tutoring center. Our goal is to share proven methods of learning to read with your children that also encourage a love of reading. It's simple: if you love what you do, you'll do it more and you'll do it well. We use real literature to inspire a love of language and story-telling. We use games, songs and puzzles to encourage learning in meaningful ways. Yes, we also share strategies for multiple-choice assessments, and we've found that after exposure to our methods, students tackle these passages with ease.

It's easy to see why your children are anxious about these exams and we understand you are anxious and confused as well. We are keeping up with the changes in State requirements and are here to explain those changes to you. Bring your child to Ballantyne Reading Academy. Then relax and enjoy the rest of the summer, knowing that when school begins, your child will be ready!
