in the family
-Let's offer up prayers of healing and comfort on behalf of those in our community who are struggling, especially:
- Logan, the 6-year-old son of Sarah and Brian and grandson of Cary and Elaine Letien, has been a patient for more than a week at Massachusetts General Hospital. Logan has double pneumonia and doctors are having a very difficult time diagnosing the infection. He is about to undergo a second surgery as they attempt to drain the infection from his chest cavity.
- Rev. Stacey Simpson Duke is the co-pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan and has been attending the Women Ministers’ Colloquium with Beth and Julie for several years. Stacey was recently diagnosed with metastatic leiomyosarcoma, a rare, aggressive soft tissue cancer.
- Chet Flowers, brother of Walter Flowers, passed away earlier this month. The memorial service for Chet will be this Tuesday at 10 a.m.
- Kendra, Bobbie Grant's niece, died this past Friday.
-We celebrate the birth of
Bettie Loughhead’s
great granddaughter on January 14. (
Beth and Jim's
grandniece).
Maeve Loretta Loughhead
was born to
Scott and Lauren Loughhead
at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge about a month early, so she was little, but has already been released from the hospital and is home.

BOOK GROUP
Friday, February 9 at 1:00 p.m.
The Book Group will tackle World War II again at its next meeting by selecting
Mr. Churchill’s Secretary
by Susan Elia MacNeal, the first in a series of seven (to date) that feature Maggie Hope as the main character. The book begins as Maggie, a Wellesley College graduate, begins a job as the newest typist at No. 10 Downing Street in London in 1940. Although she is intelligent and has an aptitude for code breaking, she is only eligible for a typing position because she’s a female. As crises develop, her superiors soon discover her formidable gifts can be of great help to them, especially in espionage work. The book contains many interesting details of life on the home front as well as historical figures. New book club members are always welcome. What better time to read a good book than when the weather is bitter cold and snowy?
