Words of Wisdom from our Tradition ...

"Who has reached complete teshuva? A person who confronts
the same situation in which he has sinned before, and then has
the potential to sin again and doesn't because of his own teshuva
alone and not because of fear or a lack of strength."
Moses Maimonides, Hilchot Teshuva  2:1

Our tradition teaches us that Elul, the final month in the Jewish calendar
is a time for us to take a cheshbon hanefesh, an accounting of our souls -
examining our deeds of the past year and making decisions about ways
we want to improve ourselves so we can make the New Year better.

We are entering the third week of Elul. The time is now.

Teshuva is a turning back and returning to try once again to be the best
person we can possibly be. Please use THB as support to help you take
an accounting of your soul; it will be our focus for the next month. The
coming month's blast messages will explore the concept of teshuva.
Together we will be prepared for a meaningful High Holy Day season.

    L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu,
May you be inscribed for a good year,
    Rabbi Andrew Klein

 PEOPLE'S CLIMATE MARCH

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2014

Start the New Year of 5775 off on the right foot by marching in the People's Climate March this Sunday. Call on world leaders convening at the UN to take strong action for a world safe from the ravages of climate change - a world with good jobs, clean air, and safe communities for everyone.

The Jewish contingent will be led by the blast of the shofar - a call to our leaders to wake up and take action now. We will be marching alongside other faith communities, labor unions, students, and environmental groups. Meet on West 58th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. There will be a multi-faith service and concert at 11:00 am, and we estimate that the Jewish contingent will march at 12:30 pm. Bring your shofar.

More detailed information about the March can be found at Jewish Climate Change Campaign and the Shalom Center. Information on transportation to the March from everywhere can be found at People's Climate March.

Jodi Blankstein, Adam Dehner and Laura Weiss. The music for this program is meant to create a soulful and meditative space inside & outside of the sanctuary walls.

We now have copies of the cd "From Within - Songs of Healing and Renewal" available for purchase in the Sisterhood Gift Shop - the cost is $15.
