ON RACISM ...

"Racism is something that is deeply rooted in our society, it's

deeply rooted in our history ... (racism) won't disappear quickly."

President Barack Obama, Black Entertainment Television

"People need to know that black lives and brown lives matter

                  as much as white lives."
Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City

"It's different for a white child. That's just the reality in this
country. And with Dante (de Blasio's son), very early on with
my son, we said, 'Look, if a police officer stops you, do everything
he tells you to do - don't move suddenly, don't reach for your
cellphone." Because we knew, sadly, there's a greater chance it
might be misinterpreted if it was a young man of color."
Bill de Blasio, ABC's This Week

"In my 68 years, most spent in Rhode Island, never has a black
person been invited to a home I lived in. Conversely, I've openly
once been invited into a black home. It was in high school after
a pick-up basketball game. The visit lasted 15 minutes. How is
this statistically possible? Am I an anomaly?"
Jim Raftus, Providence Journal, December 9, 2014

"It is not up to you to finish the work, yet you are not free to avoid it."
                           Pirke Avot 2:16

Any problem is more easily solved if we each take a share of the
responsibility. Together we can accomplish anything.

Jewish Cooking &
Jewish Holidays and Their Celebration
In conjunction with the upcoming Adult Education cooking class for Chanukah on December 14th, there are now several books on Jewish cooking available in the Temple Library. Also, a few books on Jewish holidays and their celebration.  They are located on the New Book shelves to the left of the door leading into the library.

All of these books are available for circulation.   If there is a card in the book, please fill it out with the date and your name and place it in the wooden circulation box.  If there is no card, take a blank one from the box and fill in the name of the book, the author and your name and the date.  There are more cookbooks located in the last stack on the right hand side of the library.

Eat and enjoy!

A Taste of Chanukah at Shaw's
Sunday, December 14th
11:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Temple Membership Committee is sponsoring a Chanukah display at Shaw's in Barrington on Sunday, December 14th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

We'll be making mini latkes for people to sample and will have dreidels and chocolate gelt to give away as well as information on Chanukah. It's a
great way for us to do community outreach.

We do need volunteers to work a shift at the display. If you are interested in volunteering please call Edie Weinstein at 270-6163. Hope to see you there!

And be sure to support Shaw's as they have generously supported the Temple.
