Words of Wisdom from our Tradition ...

"On the 15th day of the 7th month, when you have gathered in the yield of
your land, you shall observe the festival of God (Sukkot), to last 7 days ...
On the first day you shall take the product of hadar trees (etrog), branches
of palm trees, boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook, and you shall
rejoice before God for 7 days ... You shall live in booths for 7 days ... in order
that future generations may know that I made the Israelite people live in booths
when I brought them out of the land of Egypt."

                                                                               Leviticus 24:39-43

The sukkah reminds us of the wandering lives that our ancestors lived when
God redeemed them from slavery in Egypt. It also reminds us just how
temporary and fragile our lives are. We use this symbolism as a reminder to
live each day fully and rejoice in the gifts that we have been given today.
Please come enjoy a moment in our sukkah during this week of Sukkot.

    Hag Sameach,
    Rabbi Andrew Klein

"Building Our Future"
Endowment Fundraising Campaign
In her Rosh HaShanah talk, Temple Habonim President Lisa Shea issued a call to all congregants to support the Temple's endowment fundraising campaign.

Congregants and friends can contribute through a combination of cash gifts and planned legacy giving. A legacy gift is most aptly named. It gives the donor a convenient opportunity to leave a permanent legacy with our Temple.

The Temple will benefit from the success of this campaign in two ways. One is the endowment fund itself. It will assure a continuing, strong, thriving Jewish presence on the East Bay. The second is the annual yield from the endowment fund. It will help underwrite specific programs for the entire congregation - benefiting preschoolers to senior members and everyone in between.

At this point, we are about 50% of the way toward our goal. While we are very pleased with this start, it does mean, though, that we still have 50% of the way to go.

Jerry Weinstein and Neil Greenspan, co-chairs for the fundraising drive, will be thrilled to talk with you about the many ways a cash and/or legacy gift can be made and recognized. You can reach them directly:

Neil at [email protected] or 401-480-3605, and

Jerry at [email protected] or 269-277-0009.

Temple Habonim has a rich history and a brilliant future. "Building Our Future" is all about what comes next. It honors our past by assuring that our temple continues to be a welcoming place for you, your children, your grandchildren and others who come after us - a Jewish center that they will all want to be a part of.

On November 21st, we will celebrate
From Within ~ a special healing service born out of an interfaith musical relationship in 2013 between
Jodi Blankstein, Adam Dehner and Laura Weiss. The music for this program is meant to create a soulful and meditative space inside & outside of the sanctuary walls.

We now have copies of the cd "From Within - Songs of Healing and Renewal" available for purchase in the Sisterhood Gift Shop - the cost is $15.
