Words of Wisdom from our Tradition ...

"Rebbe, I am a sinner. I would like to return, to do teshuvah!"

Rabbi Israel of Ryzhin looked at the man before him. He did
not understand what the man wanted. "So why don't you do
    teshuvah?"

"Rebbe, I do not know how!"

Rebbe Israel retorted: "How did you know to sin?"

The remorseful sinner answered simply, "I acted, and then I
     realized that I had sinned."

"Well," said the Rebbe, "the same applies to teshuvah, repent
and the rest will follow of itself!"

      Chasidic Tale

Our tradition teaches us that Elul, the final month in the
Jewish calendar, ia time for us to take a cheshbon hanefesh
and accounting of our souls - examining our deeds of the past
year and making decisions about ways we want to improve
ourselves so we can make the New Year better.

This year the 1st of Elul falls on Wednesday, September
    27th. The time is now.

Teshuva is a turning back and returning to try once again
to be the best person we can possibly be. Please use THB
as support to help you take an accounting of your soul; it
will be our focus for the next month. The coming month's
eblast messages will explore the concept of teshuva. Together
we will be prepared for a meaningful High Holy Day season.

I have put together a journal of quotes and writing assignments
to guide you through your own personal exploration of your
Cheshbon HaNefesh from the 1st of Elul through Yom Kippur.
    Please come by the office and ask Jodi for a copy at any time;
especially if you are accustomed to writing and journaling, you
    may find this very helpful.

    L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu,
May you be inscribed for a good year,
    Rabbi Andrew Klein
