This Week's Reflections on Passover ...

Probably the most significant observance related to Pesach involves
avoiding chametz (anything with leavening) throughout the holiday.
This reminds us that when the Jews left slavery in Egypt, they were
in a hurry and did not have time to let their bread rise. It is also
thought of as a symbolic way of removing the "puffiness" (arrogance,
   pride) from our souls.

A Zeisen Pesach (a sweet Passover) to all,

   Rabbi Andrew Klein

Bloom - Youth in Action
Thursday, April 9th
Hi everyone!

Spring is finally in air, and we're ready to celebrate! Many of you  have probably heard me talk about Youth In Action, the youth leadership organization where I work. We've been working really hard over the past few months and are so excited to share all that we've been doing! On April 9, we are hosting an event at Fete Music in Providence! Not only are my awesome coworkers and YIA's amazing youth going to be there - there will also be local food, drinks, a fun (youth built) photo booth and a silent auction - and I will even be auctioned off! (Yes, you read that right...youcan bid on me!) VIP cocktail hour starts at 5, and the event starts at 6. It would mean a lot if you could join me. I'm excited to share my work and this night with you! You can get your ticket at:

Thank you for all of your support and I can't wait to see you there in a few weeks!

Social Justice Advocacy Day:
Learning and Acting with the URJ RAC
Sunday, April 12th - 9:00am to 3:00pm
Temple Shalom of Newton

Join the Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island URJ Community and our partners at the Religious Action Center as we learn new and effective ways to take part in Jewish social justice work. With Isaac Nuell, Manager of Congregational Social Action at the RAC, we'll explore the advocacy opportunities and creative ways to implement our new skills in our congregations and communities.

Synagogue members are invited to join with social justice leaders from the 41 Reform synagogues in our region to learn about important global, national and local issues and how to advocate effectively both as Reform Jews and as concerned citizens. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and share ideas and resources regarding social justice initiatives.

The RAC is the social justice arm of the Reform Movement. The Eastern MA and RI Community fosters events that strengthen synagogues and connect geographically close ones.

The event is open to any congregant interested in the collective work of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and launching local initiatives. The cost of the program is $36 per person.

An Evening with Martin S. Indyk
April 13th at 7:00 pm
Temple Beth-El, Providence
I n July, 2014, Ambassador Martin S. Indyk, currently vice president and director of the Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institution, returned from a leave of absence working with Secretary of State John Kerry as the U.S. special envoy for the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Previously, Ambassador Indyk was the founding director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings and, prior to government service, also the founding director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

He served twice as U.S. Ambassador to Israel from 1995-1997 and from 2000-2001, as Special Assistant to President Clinton and Senior Director for Near East and South Asian Affairs at the National Security Council (1993-1995), as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern affairs in the U.S. Department of State (1997-2000), and as U.S. Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations (2013-2014).

Ambassador Indyk will analyze the dramatic developments in the Arab world ~ from the revolution to sectarian warfare ~ and their impact on Iran's bid for dominance in Israel's neighborhood, including through its nuclear weapons program. What does it all mean for Israel's security and its hope for peace?
